Emmanuel Basketball Teams Finish Seasons Strong

The Emmanuel College men’s and women’s basketball teams concluded their 2010-11 seasons with conference championships and spirited efforts in the national tournaments.
On March 6, the men’s team won the SSAC Men's Basketball Championship after an intensely close game against conference rival Southern Polytechnic State University. This victory landed the team a spot in the NAIA Division I National Championship held in Kansas City, Mo., from March 16-22. In the first round of the national tournament, the men fought valiantly but eventually conceded the win to No. 12 seed Tougaloo College.
On February 23, the women proved victorious during the regular season competition by winning the NCCAA South Region Championship. As a result, the women secured a spot in the NCCAA National Tournament in Winona Lake, Ind., March 17-19. At the national competition, the team fared well with a win over Trinity International University before losing two close games to Bethel College and Southwestern Assemblies of God University.
In addition, both teams received an array of honors on their road to the national tournament from Southern States Athletic Conference and the Georgia Basketball Coaches Association. Their awards are listed below:
2010-11 Men’s Basketball Team
• 2010-11 SSAC Team Sportsman of the Year
• Senior Tedrick Hudson received the SSAC All-Conference Award, GABCA Player of the Year, GABCA First-Team All-State and GABCA All-Academic Team.
• Senior Chase Procuro received the SSAC MUSCO Champions of Character Award.
• Junior Graham Maxwell was selected on the SSAC All-Division Team.
• Michael Stanley was selected as the SSAC Freshman of the Year.
• Asmatiek Fields, Chase Procuro, Milos Bucalo and Graham Maxwell were GABCA Academic All-State honorees.
• Head basketball coach T.J. Rosene was selected as the 2010-11 SSAC Coach of the Year and the 2010-11 GABCA Coach of the Year.
2010-11 Women’s Basketball Team
• Senior Ashley Jackson received the SSAC Musco Champions of Character Award and SSAC Academic All-Conference Award, and she was selected for the SSAC All-Conference East Division team.
• Jasmine Fleming also received SSAC Academic All-Conference Award.
