Dangers of Young Men<\/h3>\n

Before I get into the dangers young men face, let me tell you this: \u201cIPHC Discipleship Ministries now has unlimited access to RightNow Media\u2014the world\u2019s largest streaming library of Bible study videos.\u201d <\/span>This<\/span> is available to you for free! In the process of<\/span> researching these resources for Boys\u2019 Ministries, I discovered one entitled \u201cDangers of Young Men.\u201d <\/span>The series is about<\/span> 5 <\/span>thirteen-year-old young men who are invited by Cavetime founder<\/span>, Jeff Voth,<\/span> to go on an outdoor adventure and take on challenges where they will face these Dangers. They will face these challenges in peculiar ways and discover the devil\u2019s schemes against young men. The Dangers of Young Men series was inspired by JC Ryle\u2019s legendary book<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Thoughts for Young Men<\/span><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In one of the opening videos, Jeff Voth asks, \u201cIs there something we can do to help boys grow in the right direction and realize the long-term consequences of their actions or inactions?\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Jeff begins by telling the boys that Satan will tell you at the beginning of your life, \u201cIt is too soon to serve God.\u201d Satan will then tell you at the end of your life, \u201cIt is too late!\u201d Jeff then uses a great illustration to demonstrate that at 13 years of age, the choices made and habits formed over the next 7 years <\/span>of their lives<\/span> will affect the next 70 years of their lives. Some choices affect only us, some will affect others, and some will affect eternity.<\/span><\/p>\n

In each episode, the boys <\/span>are sent out to<\/span> experience various challenges or activities to help them <\/span>try and<\/span> guess one of the five dangers that they will face as young men.<\/span> At the conclusion of<\/span> each episode, the boys <\/span>are given<\/span> a special Bible verse to memorize. These verses are called the \u201cSwords of the Spirit\u201d and will help them fight this danger.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here is a <\/span>brief<\/span> summary of the<\/span> 5 <\/span>dangers, along with some quotes from the series:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Pride<\/span> \u2013 <\/span>The oldest of all <\/span>the<\/span> dangers, pride<\/span>, <\/span>makes us think that we are good enough as we are.<\/span> It keeps us from hearing advice and makes us too prideful to listen.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Love of Pleasure \u2013 Fun and pleasure are okay unless you make them the point of your life. Some things that look fun are <\/span>actually<\/span> harmful \u2013 be wise. Don\u2019t feed on pleasure because it only leads to weak self-control. J. Josh Smith said, \u201cYou will never be a man of strong character unless you are a man of self-discipline.\u201d In Titus <\/span>2:6<\/span> Paul tells Titus to urge the young men to be self-controlled. If you don\u2019t learn to be self-controlled when you are a young man, you develop habits that will affect you when you are <\/span>an old man<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Thoughtlessness and Inconsideration \u2013 These dangers sneak slowly into all areas of life. It is dangerous to not think something through or not to consider other people. \u201cSome men make mistakes about their souls in a minute, then suffer for it for years.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Contempt of Religion \u2013 You can be embarrassed of your faith. <\/span>This<\/span> is almost blind to you <\/span>and<\/span> you don\u2019t even realize you feel this way. \u201cThere are difficulties in the Bible, things hard to understand. It would not be God\u2019s word if it were not. You don\u2019t despise medicine because you can not explain all that the doctor does by them.\u201d Why do you do the things you do? It has to become your decision, not just your parents\u2019 tradition.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Fear of Man\u2019s Opinion \u2013 Peer pressure is \u201csubtle but overpowering, especially today with social media where just about everyone can comment on anything.\u201d Don\u2019t value man\u2019s opinion more than God\u2019s. \u201cUse your ability to reason that God has given you to <\/span>figure out<\/span> what is true based on God\u2019s word.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Young<\/span> men are strongly targeted <\/span>in our culture<\/span> to leave their faith, so here is a great tool to teach them how to fight these battles.<\/span> This<\/span> is an excellent series for all young men and can be used individually or as a group.
