The road to creating the theme for YouthQuest 2016 was a long and winding one, with a diverse group of people contributing to the concept. The theme \u201cLuminaries\u201d is a direct reference to the 2016 Core Value Emphasis \u201cWe Prayerfully Value Holiness\u201d and may surprise you with its origin.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the spring of 2015, The Student Ministries leadership team agreed to include YouthQuest in the 2016 Core Value Emphasis<\/a> by creating a theme that went along with the Core Value of \u201choliness.\u201d But how to market holiness to thousands of teens, when the concept is sometimes difficult for even seasoned Christians to explain?<\/p>\n

The team began by starting simple conversations with individuals about their concept of holiness. Conversations included Presiding Bishop Dr. Doug Beacham and Communications Director Janese Bennet, as well as local pastors and church leaders. The phrases \u201clife-long process\u201d and \u201clifestyle\u201d were continually mentioned in these conversations, as well as the concept that holiness was unattainable outside of a growing relationship with Christ. The idea of a life of holiness as a reflection of the character of God began to take shape.<\/p>\n

A team of creatives that included local pastors, graphic designers, writers, and videographers then began brainstorming designs. It was during this time that a quote from the IPHC Manual ignited a spark of inspiration:<\/p>\n

\u201cKadesh is the Hebrew word for sanctification and its equivalents. Its verbal stem is derived from the root \u2018dash\u2019, which primarily signifies to \u2018break forth shiningly\u2019 … We become luminaries in the world. The holiness of God shines in us to the degree of our relationship to Him<\/strong>.\u201d (IPHC Manual, page 60.)<\/em><\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Dictionary.com<\/em> gives three descriptions for the definition of luminary.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. A celestial body, as the sun or moon.<\/li>\n
  2. A body, object, etc., that gives light.<\/li>\n
  3. A person who has attained eminence in his or her field or is an inspiration to others:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    -One of the luminaries in the field of medical science.<\/em><\/p>\n

    The Student Ministries team immediately knew they were on to something. Isaiah 58 further emphasizes the theme, which was used in the YQ promo commercial video. \u201cReflect the Source\u201d was also added as a catchphrase to help explain the Luminaries idea to an outside observer.<\/p>\n

    \u201cWe felt like students and leaders alike could resonate with the idea of becoming a giver of light, that we become reflections of God\u2019s character and love through our relationship and obedience to Him\u201d, explains Kaleigh Bishop, Creative Specialist for Discipleship Ministries and a member of the Student Ministries team. \u201cI love that this theme was such a team effort. I love that it\u2019s creative and inspiring and it\u2019s also rooted in our leadership. It has a foundation built from hours of discussion and prayer and study, from multiple sources and perspectives.\u201d<\/h3>\n

    The Student Ministries team approved the theme and immediately began planning the promo items, staging, and Fine Arts Award Show around the \u201clight\u201d concept. Even the creative writing, video, and sermon theme for Fine Arts<\/a> are included in the Core Value emphasis with \u201cHoliness- Reflecting the Source\u201d as their theme for 2016.<\/p>\n

    \u201cWe\u2019re really excited to see everything come together at YouthQuest 2016,\u201d explains Kaleigh. \u201cThis will be the first event that the Student Ministries Advisory Team has planned together, from the ground up, and we\u2019re putting our hearts into it one hundred percent. Our goal for this event is to truly inspire students and leaders to pursue a lifelong relationship with their Creator. To understand that holiness is not about outward appearances, but an inward transformation, and that each and every one of us are a light in the darkness. By seeking the Father and desiring to mirror His character, grace, and love, we become reflections of Him in this world, and we shine into the dark places and reach those who are blind. That is our purpose, our calling; to be the light.\u201d<\/h2>\n

    El camino de crear el tema para YouthQuest 2016 fue un largo y sinuoso, con un grupo diverso de personas que contribuyen al concepto. Una persona que ha alcanzado la eminencia en su campo, o sea una inspiraci\u00f3n para los dem\u00e1s: <\/li><\/ol> -Una De las luminarias en el campo de la ciencia m\u00e9dica.<\/em> El equipo Ministerios estudiante supo de inmediato que estaban en algo. Isa\u00edas 58 enfatiza a\u00fan m\u00e1s el tema, que se utiliz\u00f3 en el video promocional comercial YQ. "Refleja la Fuente" tambi\u00e9n fue a\u00f1adido como un eslogan para ayudar a explicar las Luminarias idea para un observador externo.

      "Nos sentimos como estudiantes y l\u00edderes por igual podr\u00eda resonar con la idea de llegar a ser un dador de la luz, que llegamos a ser reflexiones de car\u00e1cter de Dios y amor a trav\u00e9s de nuestra relaci\u00f3n y obediencia a \u00e9l", explica Kaleigh Bishop, especialista creativo para Ministerios Discipulado y un miembro Ministerios del equipo de Estudiante. "Me encanta que este tema fue un esfuerzo de equipo. Me encanta que sea creativa e inspiradora y tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 arraigada en nuestro liderazgo. Tiene una base construida a partir de horas de discusi\u00f3n y oraci\u00f3n y el estudio, a partir de m\u00faltiples fuentes y perspectivas ". <\/h3> El equipo de Ministerios Estudiante aprob\u00f3 el tema e inmediatamente comenz\u00f3 a planificar los art\u00edculos de promoci\u00f3n, puesta en escena, y Bellas Artes show de Premios en torno al concepto "luz". Incluso la escritura creativa, de v\u00eddeo, y el serm\u00f3n tema de Bellas Artes<\/a> se incluyen en el valor \u00e9nfasis Core con "santidad, reflejo de la Fuente" como tema para el 2016.

      "Estamos muy emocionados de ver todo lo que se unen al YouthQuest 2016", explica Kaleigh. "Este ser\u00e1 el primer evento de que el Equipo Asesor de los Ministerios de Estudiantes ha planeado juntos, desde el principio, y estamos poniendo nuestro coraz\u00f3n en \u00e9l al cien por cien. Nuestro objetivo para este evento es realmente inspirar a los estudiantes y l\u00edderes para seguir una relaci\u00f3n de por vida con su Creador. Para entender que la santidad no es acerca de las apariencias externas, sino una transformaci\u00f3n interior, y que todos y cada uno de nosotros es una luz en la oscuridad.
