Regardless of what the beat is or how good the music sounds, if your lyrics and delivery do not match the time signature of the beat, you will lose the attention of the audience listening.

Music- The music isn’t everything, but it plays a big part. I am not saying that you always need a complicated beat, I have heard some of the best emcees do incredible a cappella verses. You do need to realize that the tone of the music must match the tone of your lyrics – happy music with sad lyrics clash. Also, be aware of music that is too busy. That can take attention away from your lyrics.

Clarity- Everyone wants to be the fastest rapper out there, but speed isn’t for everyone. In fact, sometimes “speed kills.” The faster you rap the more important clarity and enunciation of your words become. I am not saying that you have to sound like my 8th grade grammar teacher; I just want to understand you.

Originality- Originality is a key ingredient in great art. We must always consider hip-hop as an art-form. I would always encourage young emcees to take the time and create something they can call their own.

Authenticity- Everyone cannot be Lecrae, Toby Mac, or Andy Mineo. You only have one option, and that is to be you. If you try and be like someone else, you will fail because that is not who you are called to be. Others can influence you, but you must realize that you have your own story to tell. You have your own message that you have been given to share. I can guarantee that people will appreciate and relate to the real you more than the you who is trying to replicate your favorite rapper.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

305,3,8
469,134
0":"post-3042","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-student-ministires","8":"category-youth-ministries","9":"category-youth-quest","10":"tag-faf","11":"tag-fine-arts-festival","12":"entry
