Resource Review \/ Recommendation:\u00a0\u201cThe Knowledge of the Holy,\u201d by A. W. Tozer<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve often opined that too many current ministry and\u00a0theology resources are simply rehashing and rephrasing the classic works of our\u00a0faith. It seems\u00a0fewer and fewer people are producing seminal, original,\u00a0inspired works like those of our spiritual predecessors. With that opinion,\u00a0many times I\u2019ve chosen to\u00a0step back and read the quoted-classic over its\u00a0summary in a newer work. Such is the case with Tozer\u2019s KOTH.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s a small book, power-packed with deep insights into the\u00a0character and nature of God. Using very few words, Tozer still manages to\u00a0challenge the reader\u2019s\u00a0thoughts about Who God is and recalibrate our\u00a0conception of Him to the revelation of Scripture. The first chapter is aptly\u00a0titled, \u201cThinking Rightly About God.\u201d\u00a0Each chapter that follows, addresses a\u00a0different attribute of God and the implications of that divine attribute on\u00a0our mortal existence. It\u2019s not reading for the\u00a0faint-of-heart, and it probably\u00a0will be overwhelming for HS and MS students; rather, it\u2019s a personal trainer\u00a0for leaders\u2013 an exercise in making the heart and\u00a0spirit stronger and more sound in\u00a0doctrine. I highly recommend this devotional\u2013 a classic work for personal study, and\u00a0its effects will come out in your teaching and\u00a0preaching.<\/p>\n
