Modern Day Slavery, Human Trafficking, and Project Restore <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

It was a Sunday in October of 2010 that I first met Charles Powell of \u201cMercy Movement\u201d.<\/em> Little did I know as we sat and shared over a meal at a local restaurant how my life was about to change.\u00a0 Charles shared passionately with me about the current state of trafficking that we were facing right here in our own communities.\u00a0 Not some remote country far from the western Pennsylvania community I call home, but right here in our hometown.\u00a0 That\u2019s right\u2026modern day slavery also known as human trafficking taking place in major cities, as well as, rural communities here in the land of the free.\u00a0 Human trafficking deviates from our historic view of slavery, making it hard to conceptualize.\u00a0 But ultimately, slavery today and 200 years ago share the same notion; it\u2019s the notion that a person\u2019s life, liberty and fortune can be under the absolutely control of another, and be sold, bought, or used at the will of the owner.<\/p>\n

Statistics estimate that there are between 10 million and 27 million slaves in the world today. It is also estimated that human trafficking generates profits of 32-33 billion dollars annually.\u00a0 The victims most vulnerable are women and children.\u00a0 Children in particular are sold, bonded, trafficked, subjected to commercial sexual exploitation, recruited into armed conflicts and forced to work as domestic workers.\u00a0 Many are being forced into sex trafficking at the early age of 12-14 years.<\/p>\n

As I sat and listened to Charles share I knew that the church had to join in the fight against trafficking, but the question that filled my mind that night was\u2026how? How could a small church in western Pennsylvania make a difference in such huge overwhelming world-wide problem?\u00a0 The answer was not as difficult as one might think\u2026do something.\u00a0 So I simply said to Charles, what can we do?\u00a0 His reply\u2026 \u201cmore than anything we need long-term aftercare facilities that will offer healing and recovery to those women who are rescued from the world of trafficking. <\/em>The ministry of \u201cProject Restore\u201d was born that night and developed over the next three years with a mission to provide a safe and healthy home environment where Hope and Christ-centered love collide to offer complete healing and restoration spirit, soul, and body.\u00a0 Project Restore serves women age 18 and older in a long-term aftercare home called \u201cLyndsey\u2019s Place\u201d. \u00a0Lyndsey\u2019s Place is an 8 bedroom home with each individual having her own room and space.\u00a0 Services are comprehensive and meet emotional, spiritual and physical needs as we are equipped.\u00a0 We are blessed by Joan who serves as the Director of Housing (house mom) and Savannah who is the Director of Programming.\u00a0 Both Joan and Savannah live full-time in the home and are supported by the most amazing and caring volunteer team one could hope for.<\/p>\n

Charles comparti\u00f3 con pasi\u00f3n conmigo sobre el estado actual de la trata de que est\u00e1bamos frente a la derecha aqu\u00ed en nuestras propias comunidades. No alg\u00fan remoto pa\u00eds lejos de la comunidad oeste de Pensilvania que llamo a casa, pero aqu\u00ed en nuestra ciudad natal. As\u00ed es ... la esclavitud moderna tambi\u00e9n conocida como la trata de personas que tienen lugar en las principales ciudades, as\u00ed como las comunidades rurales, aqu\u00ed en la tierra de los libres. La trata de personas se desv\u00eda de nuestro punto de vista hist\u00f3rico de la esclavitud, por lo que es dif\u00edcil de conceptualizar. Pero en \u00faltima instancia, la esclavitud y hoy hace 200 a\u00f1os comparten la misma idea; es la noci\u00f3n de que una persona de la vida, la libertad y la fortuna pueden estar bajo el control de otro absolutamente, y ser vendido, comprado o utilizado en la voluntad del propietario. Las estad\u00edsticas estiman que hay entre 10 millones y 27 millones de esclavos en el mundo hoy en d\u00eda. Asimismo, se estima que el tr\u00e1fico humano genera ganancias de 32-33 mil millones de d\u00f3lares anuales. Las v\u00edctimas m\u00e1s vulnerables son las mujeres y los ni\u00f1os. Los ni\u00f1os en particular se venden, en condiciones de servidumbre, la trata, objeto de explotaci\u00f3n sexual comercial, reclutados en conflictos armados y obligados a trabajar en el servicio dom\u00e9stico. Muchos est\u00e1n siendo forzados a tr\u00e1fico sexual a la temprana edad de 12-14 a\u00f1os. Mientras estaba sentado y escuch\u00e9 a Charles Compartir sab\u00eda que la iglesia tuvo que unirse a la lucha contra el tr\u00e1fico, pero la pregunta que llenaba mi mente esa noche fue ... \u00bfc\u00f3mo? \u00bfC\u00f3mo pudo una peque\u00f1a iglesia en el oeste de Pensilvania hacer una diferencia en tan enorme problema mundial abrumadora? La respuesta no era tan dif\u00edcil como uno podr\u00eda pensar ... hacer algo. As\u00ed que simplemente dije a Carlos, \u00bfqu\u00e9 podemos hacer? Su respuesta ... \"m\u00e1s que cualquier cosa que necesitan instalaciones de postratamiento a largo plazo que ofrecer\u00e1n la curaci\u00f3n y la recuperaci\u00f3n a aquellas mujeres que son rescatados desde el mundo del tr\u00e1fico.<\/em> El ministerio de\" Proyecto de restauraci\u00f3n \"naci\u00f3 esa noche y se desarroll\u00f3 durante los pr\u00f3ximos tres a\u00f1os con la misi\u00f3n de proporcionar un ambiente de hogar seguro y saludable, donde la esperanza y el amor centrada en Cristo colisionan para ofrecer la curaci\u00f3n completa y el esp\u00edritu de restauraci\u00f3n, alma y cuerpo. Proyecto de restauraci\u00f3n atiende a mujeres mayores de 18 a\u00f1os en un hogar de cuidados posteriores a largo plazo llamado \"de Lyndsey lugar\". de Lyndsey Place es una casa de 8 dormitorios con cada individuo tiene su propia habitaci\u00f3n y el espacio. Los servicios son integrales y adecuados a las necesidades emocionales, espirituales y f\u00edsicos que nos hemos dotado. Hemos sido bendecidos por Joan que sirve como el Director de Vivienda (casa madre) y Savannah, que es el director de programaci\u00f3n. Tanto Joan y Savannah viven a tiempo completo en el hogar y son compatibles con el equipo de voluntarios m\u00e1s incre\u00edble y el cuidado que se pod\u00eda esperar.
