This is the last issue of Encourage before the IPHC\u2019s General Conference, which will be held July 26-28, in Orlando, Florida. As we prepare for this quadrennial event, I draw your attention to some aspects of the General Conference that are important for us as a global movement.<\/p>\n
First, we gather to worship the Living God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. We will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, with a worship service and a celebration of Holy Communion. I hope many of you around the world will join us via live stream at https:\/\/iphc.org\/live<\/a>.<\/p>\n We will have three evening worship services, culminating on Friday night, July 28, with the installation of the new Executive Committee of the Council of Bishops and the message of the General Superintendent. During the days on Thursday and Friday we will hear the Word of the Lord, we will hear instruction and we will join with IPHC leaders around the world for intercessory prayer.<\/p>\n It is important that we recognize that worship is the primary and foundational act of the General Conference. Worship draws our attention to God and His mission to redeem the world through His Son Jesus Christ. Worship draws our attention to the presence of the Holy Spirit and His mission to equip and empower us for ministry to the world. Worship draws our attention to the holiness of God and His desire that we be a people who manifest His holy love to this sin-damaged world.<\/p>\n Second, only through worship can we engage the business of the church. Worship reminds us that the administration of Christ\u2019s church is a gift of the Holy Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 12:28 (NKJV) Paul lists apostles, prophets, teachers, then miracles, gifts of healings, helps, administrations, and varieties of tongues as spiritual gifts operating in and for the body of Christ.<\/p>\n Notice the abundance of plural forms in this list. God is not limited to just one way to \u201chelp.\u201d The plural tells us that every believer has a role and every need has a supply!<\/p>\n The word translated \u201cadministrations\u201d is a term used to describe a captain guiding a sea vessel. It denotes a journey and a goal. It implies a cargo and a purpose. It describes the kinds of decisions and wisdom needed to safely lead to the desired end. The Spirit will give us the wisdom we need as we debate and determine various policies. The policy decisions are important, as they provide the spiritual, and legal, guidance we need as a church in this world.<\/p>\n Third, we will gather for fellowship. Many of you will enjoy meals and coffee breaks with friends you have not seen in several years. Others of you will make new friends that will enrich your lives by their wisdom, humor, and grace. Still, others will participate in the numerous special event meals and receptions that will occur. Throughout, we will discover that common joy that one finds globally among followers of Jesus. El Ap\u00f3stol Pablo aludi\u00f3 a la Ascensi\u00f3n en Efesios 4: 8-16 al referirse a los dones de Cristo de ap\u00f3stoles, profetas, evangelistas, pastores y maestros. La conexi\u00f3n con Pentecost\u00e9s y el \u00e9nfasis del IPHC en el Reino de Cristo se hace m\u00e1s clara cuando reconocemos el \u00e9nfasis que San Lucas le dio al per\u00edodo entre la resurrecci\u00f3n y Pentecost\u00e9s. Primero vemos esto en el Evangelio de Lucas, cuando Lucas se enfoc\u00f3 en qu\u00e9 y por qu\u00e9 Jes\u00fas ense\u00f1\u00f3 (Lucas 24: 25-32, 44-49). Durante estos cuarenta d\u00edas, Jes\u00fas instruy\u00f3 a Sus disc\u00edpulos: \"Estas son las palabras que os he hablado mientras todav\u00eda estaba con vosotros ...\" (Lucas 24:44 NVI). Esto significa que Jes\u00fas repiti\u00f3 mucho de lo que dijo durante Sus tres a\u00f1os de ministerio. Jes\u00fas nombr\u00f3 los aspectos de Sus milagros y ense\u00f1anzas que necesitaban ser enfatizados. \u00c9l dijo a Sus seguidores \"... que todas las cosas deben ser cumplidas que fueron escritas en la Ley de Mois\u00e9s y los Profetas y los Salmos acerca de M\u00ed\" (Lucas 24:44 NVI). Jes\u00fas ense\u00f1\u00f3 a sus disc\u00edpulos jud\u00edos que su ministerio fue predicho en su ley, profetas y escritos. Mostr\u00f3 c\u00f3mo cumpli\u00f3 estos testigos del prop\u00f3sito divino de Dios en el mundo. En el segundo volumen de Lucas, los Hechos de los Ap\u00f3stoles, comenz\u00f3 con lo que Jes\u00fas hizo y ense\u00f1\u00f3 durante estos cuarenta d\u00edas \"... hasta el d\u00eda en que fue llevado ...\" (Hechos 1: 1-2). Jes\u00fas \"se present\u00f3 vivo despu\u00e9s de su sufrimiento por muchas pruebas infalibles ...\" (Hechos 1: 3). La realidad de la presencia f\u00edsica de Jes\u00fas con ellos durante estos cuarenta d\u00edas fue claramente afirmada (ver Lucas 24: 36-43). El Jes\u00fas f\u00edsicamente presente, presente en la singularidad de su cuerpo resucitado que trascendi\u00f3 las leyes f\u00edsicas normales, ense\u00f1\u00f3 a los disc\u00edpulos sobre un tema espec\u00edfico: \"las cosas que pertenecen al reino de Dios\" (Hechos 1: 3). Sabemos que el Ap\u00f3stol Pedro fue restaurado espiritualmente durante estos cuarenta d\u00edas (Lucas 22:31, 32, Juan 21: 15-18). Sin duda, los siguientes d\u00edas con Jes\u00fas fueron momentos de renovaci\u00f3n, de discernimiento y de afirmaci\u00f3n, de modo que Pedro sigui\u00f3 adelante sin culpabilidad, con la fuerza que proviene de la gratitud y la humildad. Lo mismo puede decirse de Tom\u00e1s, cuya duda fue directamente cuestionada por Jes\u00fas (Juan 20: 24-29). Sin duda Thomas encontr\u00f3 una fe confiada que le permiti\u00f3 avanzar m\u00e1s adelante hacia el este en la India como un misionero del Se\u00f1or resucitado. Estos cuarenta d\u00edas eran esenciales-d\u00edas que no debemos ser r\u00e1pidos para saltar. Durante este tiempo, los disc\u00edpulos estaban en presencia del Se\u00f1or resucitado y la presencia del Esp\u00edritu Santo. Juan 20: 19-23 describi\u00f3 c\u00f3mo en los primeros d\u00edas de su resurrecci\u00f3n, Jes\u00fas se reuni\u00f3 con los temerosos disc\u00edpulos y trajo su paz que transform\u00f3 su temor. Les orden\u00f3 que fueran enviados tal como hab\u00eda sido enviado. \"Y respirando sobre ellos, les dijo: Recibid el Esp\u00edritu Santo.\" La presencia del Esp\u00edritu Santo durante estos cuarenta d\u00edas les permiti\u00f3 aprender y discernir en un ambiente cargado de vida divina. Jes\u00fas ense\u00f1\u00f3 que su poder, para liberar al poder del pecado, se estaba transfiriendo a ellos, sus disc\u00edpulos. La importancia de que Jes\u00fas respire sobre ellos el Esp\u00edritu Santo en Juan 20:22 da un nuevo impulso al significado de Pentecost\u00e9s en Hechos 2. En ambos casos, el Esp\u00edritu est\u00e1 presente, mostrando el modo de formar la nueva creaci\u00f3n que manifiesta lo que significa Ser una nueva comunidad en el mundo. Es una comunidad en continuidad con las promesas de Abraham y la comunidad del pacto de Israel. Al final de los cuarenta d\u00edas, Jes\u00fas reuni\u00f3 a sus disc\u00edpulos juntos para su clase de clausura. Ellos preguntaron: \"\u00bfVolver\u00e9is a restaurar el reino a Israel?\" (Hechos 1: 6). Estoy cambiando de opini\u00f3n acerca de su pregunta. Sol\u00eda \u200b\u200bpensar que hac\u00edan esta pregunta porque todav\u00eda no lo entend\u00edan. \nThus, when we gather for our business, we can rest assured that the Holy Spirit is at work \u201cguiding\u201d us. We can trust the Holy Spirit to give us the leaders we need for each season of the church\u2019s journey towards the return of Christ.<\/p>\n
\nIn the grand timeline of Christianity, our hundred plus years are but brief. When we consider that nearly 3 billion Christians live on this planet, our numbers are a small percentage. But we are nonetheless part of what the Holy Spirit is doing in human history concerning the kingdom of God. Therefore let us do our part with courage, truth, humility, love, compassion and great faith.<\/p>\n
