Talmadge Gardner<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I was honored to serve Bishop Stuart and Sheri Sherrill and the members of the Heartland Conference as their presiding officer on Saturday, April 28, 2018. The quadrennial conference was hosted at the Heartland Conference Retreat Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. At the start of the conference session, there were 254 registered delegates in attendance in addition to many guests\/exhibitors.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Sherrill opened his State of the Conference Report by stating \u2013 \u201cThe Heartland Conference is a special family. We rejoice together when one of our members celebrates, and we grieve when one weeps. We help each other and cheer each other on. We are truly better together!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Sherrill reported Heartland Conferences\u2019 ministry footprint for the year ending 2017 as follows:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u2022 76 Member Churches (1 Affiliate Church)<br \/>\n\u2022 5,322 Members<br \/>\n\u2022 5,680 Worship Attendance<br \/>\n\u2022 6 Church Plants<\/p>\n<p>As of this Quadrennial Conference their clergy profile is:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u2022 150 Ordained Ministers<br \/>\n\u2022 31 Licensed Ministers<br \/>\n\u2022 43 Local Church Minister\u2019s License<\/p>\n<p>The Conference elected the following persons to serve as members of their Conference Executive Council:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conference Superintendent: Bishop Stuart Sherrill (by acclamation)<\/li>\n<li>Assistant Conference Superintendent: Rev. Terry Lowder (by acclamation)<\/li>\n<li>Conference Secretary\/Treasurer: Rev. Debbie Burpo<\/li>\n<li>Conference Executive Council Member-at-Large: Rev. Justin Blankenship<\/li>\n<li>Conference Executive Council Member-at-Large: Rev. John Leggett<\/li>\n<li>Conference Executive Council Member-at-Large: Mr. Daniel Ice<\/li>\n<li>Conference Executive Council Member-at-Large: Rev. Hallie Brown<\/li>\n<li>Heartland may be the first U.S. conference to elect two ladies as Executive Council members. Praise God. The report not only memorialized the life and legacies of the clergy members listed below, it also honored the ministry legacy of former General Superintendent, Bishop James D. Leggett.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u2022 Rev. Lucille Short<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Dorrance Manning<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Charles Calvin<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Marvin Goodpasture<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Wayne Webb<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Ernest Johnson<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Benjamin Parker<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Dillon Marsh<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Woodrow Wilson \u201cWoody\u201d Stevens<br \/>\n\u2022 Bishop James D. Leggett<\/p>\n<p>It was an honor as the presiding officer to recognize the following conference attendees and guests:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u2022 Mrs. Thelma McDowell, wife of former conference superintendent, Rev. James McDowell. Rev. McDowell also served the general church as a GEB and GBA member<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Bob &amp; Edith Ely, former conference superintendent, West Oklahoma Conference, GEB &amp; GBA member, and former president of Southwestern Christian University<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Bobby &amp; Judy Stewart, former conference superintendent, West Oklahoma Conference. Rev. Stewart also served the general church as a GBA member<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Lynn &amp; Marilyn Ice, former conference superintendent, Ozarks Conference. Rev. Ice also served the general church as a GBA member<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Charlene West, retired IPHC career missionary to Costa Rica, Venezuela, and Colombia. Rev. West also served as the first director of Intercultural Ministries for the denomination<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Luis Avila, director of Hispanic Ministries and INCaM, EVUSA, IPHC<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Johnny Upton, vice president, IPHC Extension Loan Fund<br \/>\n\u2022 Chaplain Colonel Jerry L. Jones, U.S. Army Retired, director and endorser for Chaplains Ministries, EVUSA, IPHC<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Bryan Nix, director of IPHC WMM People to People &amp; TEAMS Ministries<br \/>\n\u2022 David &amp; Michelle Riley, recently approved as IPHC missionaries to Africa<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Ed &amp; Margie Rhodes, retired (but still very active) IPHC career missionaries to Africa<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Jeff Patterson, director of operations for the Global Ministry Center<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Steve Ely, former director of Youth Ministry, IPHC<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. Terry Lowder, former assistant director, EVUSA, IPHC<br \/>\n\u2022 Rev. David Oxley, former assistant director, Stewardship Ministries, IPHC<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Sherrill and I served together in Church Education\/Discipleship Ministries. It is an honor to serve him and with him now on the Council of Bishops. Stuart\u2019s election by acclamation affirms the trust that the delegates of the Heartland Conference have in his vision to move the conference forward. I believe that God will use Stuart and Sheri\u2019s vast deposit and reservoir of experience and impartation to greatly benefit the Heartland Conference in the quadrennium ahead of them.<\/p>\n<p>Stuart and Sheri Sherrill are wonderful people and great gifts to our church family, the IPHC. He tenido la alegr\u00eda de visitar esta hermosa parte del pa\u00eds en varias ocasiones. Cada vez, me recuerda que esta \u00e1rea ha sido un lugar de importancia para las personas que han tenido una gran influencia en el IPHC: la Sra. Esther Gardner (madre del Obispo Gardner) era de esta ciudad; La Reverenda y la Sra. Hobart Howard se casaron en Greenville, Pennsylvania. \u00a1El reverendo Kent Bell, pastor de Bethel Life, me inform\u00f3 que en 2019 la congregaci\u00f3n local tendr\u00e1 100 a\u00f1os! La conferencia se form\u00f3 en la d\u00e9cada de 1920. Estamos agradecidos por la rica historia y las generaciones que nos han precedido en y desde Pensilvania. El Dr. Bob Kostelnik present\u00f3 el Informe de Decoro y luego el Informe de Credenciales. A Julia Augustine y Mark Crosby se les otorg\u00f3 la Licencia de Ministro de la Iglesia Local. Joseph Herr y Joshua Webb recibieron la Licencia de Ministro. Nadie fue ordenado en esta conferencia anual. El Obispo Dale Adams ley\u00f3 el Informe de Memorias. La vida y el ministerio del fallecido reverendo Gene Miller fueron recordados y celebrados.
