(Used by permission.) This poem reflects on Jesus&#8217; prophecy about the Jerusalem Temple&#8217;s destruction (and the destruction and resurrection of the &#8220;temple of his body&#8221;). When those walls fall, all people may worship the Father &#8220;in Spirit and in truth&#8221; (John 4:23).<\/em><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>tuesday now.<\/div>\n<div>this week, a melody merging<\/div>\n<div>unexpected segments<\/div>\n<div>into one story.<\/div>\n<div>temple, you\u2019ll be torn down.<\/div>\n<div>religious marketing schemes,<\/div>\n<div>you\u2019ll be revealed as<\/div>\n<div>missing the points<\/div>\n<div>you promote.<\/div>\n<div>people, all people,<\/div>\n<div>you\u2019ll be loved.<\/div>\n<div>that story of Jesus,<\/div>\n<div>so ancient, so relevant,<\/div>\n<div>so needed today<\/div>\n<div>in my heart and mind,<\/div>\n<div>to redirect my own tendencies<\/div>\n<div>and destroy the making<\/div>\n<div>of my own temples.<\/div>\n<div>oh, may i have ears to hear.<\/div>\n<div>oh, may i have a heart to care.<\/div>\n<div>and, may i enter<\/div>\n<div>the story, hearing walls fall,<\/div>\n<div>seeing the rejected loved, and<\/div>\n<div>noticing the facial expressions<\/div>\n<div>of One walking one day<\/div>\n<div>closer to the cross.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em>Chris Maxwell is a pastor and author based in northeast Georgia.
