{"id":859,"date":"2016-05-09T21:33:27","date_gmt":"2016-05-09T21:33:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iphc.org\/gso\/?p=859"},"modified":"2019-09-09T08:18:03","modified_gmt":"2019-09-09T13:18:03","slug":"heartland-annual-conference-report-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iphc.org\/gso\/2016\/05\/09\/heartland-annual-conference-report-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Heartland Annual Conference Report 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>By Talmadge Gardner<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I was privileged to serve as the presiding officer for the <strong>HEARTLAND CONFERENCE ANNUAL CONFERENCE SESSION, <\/strong>April 30, 2016.\u00a0 The conference was hosted at the<strong> Heartland Conference Retreat Center, <\/strong>Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Sherrill\u2019s <em>State of the Conference<\/em> report was comprehensive and full of optimism. His emphasis that Heartland is \u2018one church in many locations\u2019 is nurturing a \u2018family\u2019 atmosphere: <em>\u201c<\/em><em>From Day One my message has been that we are one church in many locations. Although ministers too often feel isolated, it does not have to be that way. Indeed God has designed a better way. He wants us to have friends and mentors, close relationships with other ministers that will take us from strength to strength, faith to faith, and glory to glory! I will do everything I can to be there for you and help you, but my goal is still to connect you to each other.\u201d <\/em>The bond of fellowship that is being developed by members of the Heartland Conference is a close-knit and genuine one.\u00a0 You can sense it.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Sherrill reported Heartland Conference\u2019s footprint as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>72 total churches [Seventy-one planted and transfer member churches &amp; one affiliate church]<\/li>\n<li>Clergy:\n<ul>\n<li>Ordained &#8211; 154<\/li>\n<li>Licensed\u00a0&#8211; 24<\/li>\n<li>Local Church Minister\u2019s Certificate \u2013 49<\/li>\n<li>Total of 227 Credentialed Clergy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Total church membership between 4,000 and 5,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bishop Sherrill also recognized 11 churches that are experiencing significant growth.\u00a0 He requested that two of those pastors share their testimony with the conference.\u00a0 Pastor John Leggett at Falls Pointe Church reported that more than 750 people attended their Easter services and that they had just completed the first phase of their campus expansion.\u00a0 He has done this with part-time team members and just recently added his first full-time team member. Rev. Steve Ely, senior pastor of Passion Church talked about the miraculous financial awakening that his church is experiencing.\u00a0 He attributes the catalyst for this awakening to pastor Robert Morris\u2019 <em>The Blessed Life<\/em> series.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bishop Sherrill awarded service pins as follows:\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>10 Year Pins \u2013 Rev. Debbie Burpo, Rev. George Ankrah and Rev. Chris Hammons<\/li>\n<li>50 Year Pins \u2013 Rev. Ralph Davis and Rev. Bob Ely<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Heartland Conference Lifetime Achievement Award<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a very fitting ceremony, Bishop Sherrill and the members of the Heartland Conference Executive Council presented the Heartland Conference Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously to Rev. James McDowell.\u00a0 Thelma McDowell and their son, Jim, were present for this ceremony.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clergy credentials were issued as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Ordination (4) \u2013<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rev.
