Many of us have heard and seen the military command, \u201cPresent arms.\u201d If unarmed, it indicates a salute with the right hand.<\/p>\n

I think of this in light of our church\u2019s continued stance of attention when it comes to holiness and sanctification. The apostle Paul appealed to Roman Christians \u201cby the mercies of God\u201d that they should present their bodies as \u201ca living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is\u00a0your reasonable service\u201d (Romans 12:1, NKJV). He followed with this admonition: \u201cDo not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God\u201d (12:2).If armed, there is a quick snap as a rifle is moved from the shoulder to a vertical position in front of the soldier. It is a sign of respect and flows from the soldier (or soldiers) already in a position of \u201cattention.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his second letter to the Corinthians, Paul referred to the \u201carmor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left\u201d (2 Corinthians 6:7). In the same letter he referenced \u201cthe weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ\u201d (10:4, 5).<\/p>\n

The goal of life is more than being delivered from the dominion of sin (although that is obviously important, according to Romans 6). The\u00a0purpose of such deliverance is that we \u201cpresent yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God\u201d (Romans 6:13).\u00a0Paul\u2019s tenses in 6:13 are important. The first \u201cpresent\u201d in the first part of verse 13 (not printed here) is a present imperative.<\/p>\n

The second \u201cpresent\u201d (printed) is an aorist imperative. As people\u00a0redeemed by Christ and set apart for His glory, we do not continue to offer our \u201cmembers\u201d (any part of our body, a word used of weapons) for unrighteousness.<\/p>\n

Redeemed, sanctified people must make a conscious decision of mind and will to stop living\u00a0according to the dictates of our flesh and the spirit of the age. Instead, we present ourselves (the aorist denotes a clear point of determination) as being people who do not live as\u00a0the spiritually \u201cwalking dead\u201d but as those who are \u201calive in Christ\u201d; therefore, our life in every aspect is surrendered to righteousness and God.\u00a0That is an act of total surrender.<\/p>\n

There may remain pockets of resistance to be transformed, or areas in life where the long\u00a0conformation of the world is being confronted and straightened; but in the sight of God and in our inner person, we have taken our stand and made our decision.<\/p>\n

The goal and focus of sanctification in our lives is thus towards living as \u201cnew creatures\u201d in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:7). We are a \u201cnew humanity\u201d (Ephesians 2:15; 4:24; Colossians 3:10), manifested through the church, so that the principalities and powers of the world will know the manifold wisdom of God (Ephesians 3:10).\u00a0God\u2019s sanctifying work in us is to reveal His glory and the glory meant for all in Christ.<\/p>\n

This is not a life unaware of, and immune to, the temptations and vulnerabilities we confront in this life; rather, it is a life that is profoundly grateful for the\u00a0mercies and grace of God that have delivered us from the power of darkness (Colossians 1:12-14). We are therefore no longer children\u00a0of darkness but now sons and daughters of God who walk in the light (Romans 13:12; Ephesians 5:8;\u00a01 Thessalonians 5:5).<\/p>\n

Our emphasis on holiness this year is a clarion call for us to \u201cpresent arms.\u201d It requires our \u201cattention\u201d and ears to listen to the voice of\u00a0the One who calls us. It requires us to have our spiritual \u201cweapons\u201d of truth, integrity, honesty, peace, grace and love ready to be used for the righteousness of God.<\/p>\n

Over this summer several thousand IPHC teens and young adults from across the United States will gather in Daytona Beach,\u00a0Florida. Hundreds from across Latin America will gather in Costa Rica, and many from Europe will gather in Hungary to pursue holiness.<\/p>\n

Many of them are already struggling with patterns of the world that have ensnared them. Addictions from the chemical world and from the digital world have\u00a0filled their minds, hearts and bodies. They long for genuine freedom, for authenticity, for hope and for love.<\/p>\n

They long to know that God is real and alive. They long for more than a movie or catchy song. They, like all of us, want to experience\u00a0the wholeness, the genuine humanness of what we are meant to be in the redeeming, sanctifying love of God.<\/p>\n

I ask you to join me in praying that these young people will encounter the life-changing power of the mercies and grace of God. They will inherit most of this century and it will be their\u00a0generational assignment to speak truth and love to a world far different than the world for which our generations were prepared.<\/p>\n

Their minds are already wired differently due to growing up in the digital world. But the human condition, longing, and hope remain the same: the wholeness that comes from the\u00a0transforming life of the Son of God, Jesus the Lord.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s time for holiness and sanctification to get our \u201cattention.\u201d It\u2019s time for full surrender to the Lordship of Christ. It\u2019s time to \u201cpresent arms\u201d\u00a0with weapons of righteousness. It\u2019s time. Regardless the language or culture, it\u2019s time.<\/p>\n

Reardon llama Isa\u00edas \"el profeta de la santidad divina\" y se\u00f1ala que el motivo de la santidad \"une a los tres grandes secciones de este libro prof\u00e9tico.\" Esta afirmaci\u00f3n es validado por el uso del lenguaje. La frase, \"el Santo de Israel\" se encuentra 26 veces a lo largo del libro, pero s\u00f3lo se utiliza otras 6 veces en el resto de la Biblia Hebrea. Reardon se\u00f1ala que el adjetivo \"santo\" se usa 33 veces en Isa\u00edas y 26 veces en el resto de la Biblia Hebrea. Me parece que esta conexi\u00f3n de la santidad con el plan redentor de Dios por medio de Jesucristo es un tema importante para nosotros ya que asistimos a los confusos sonidos de nuestra generaci\u00f3n. Desde enero, nuestro enfoque cada mes ha estado en la fuente de la santidad. El mes pasado escrib\u00ed a usted acerca de Jes\u00fas como la manifestaci\u00f3n de esa fuente, y me encuentro de nuevo dispuesta a ir a Jes\u00fas. Uno de los aspectos atractivos de la teolog\u00eda ortodoxa es el \u00e9nfasis en el prop\u00f3sito de Dios en la restauraci\u00f3n de la gloria de la humanidad. Es por eso que la teolog\u00eda ortodoxa pone tanto \u00e9nfasis en la Encarnaci\u00f3n, y en Jes\u00fas como el revelador de lo que la humanidad est\u00e1 destinado a ser. Esta es una parte necesaria de nuestra tradici\u00f3n teol\u00f3gica santidad. Nuestra tradici\u00f3n ha tendido a centrarse en la dimensi\u00f3n \"pecado\" de la obra de Jes\u00fas en relaci\u00f3n con la santidad. Obviamente esto es verdadero y apropiado. Necesitamos desesperadamente el perd\u00f3n de nuestros pecados; tenemos que ser limpiados de toda maldad (I Juan 1: 9). La obra de Jes\u00fas en la cruz es esencial, y de ninguna manera voy a reducir al m\u00e1ximo dicho \u00e9nfasis. Sin embargo, quiz\u00e1 es el momento para nosotros destacar tambi\u00e9n lo que estamos destinados a ser, en esta vida y en la vida futura. En la vida futura nos centramos en raz\u00f3n glorificaci\u00f3n. Pero necesitamos afirmar tambi\u00e9n el poder del Esp\u00edritu de Dios que nos permita vivir con fruto y en abundancia dentro de las limitaciones de la existencia \"al este del Ed\u00e9n\" humana (Juan 10:10; 15:16). Si podemos brillar como luz en la oscuridad en este lado del cielo, la gloria del Se\u00f1or se manifestar\u00e1 por encima de la oscura confusi\u00f3n de nuestro mundo. Recuerde lo que Isa\u00edas escuch\u00f3 desde el cielo? El sonido culto de \"santo, santo, santo\" fue seguido con esta proclama: \"Toda la tierra est\u00e1 llena de su gloria!\" Tenga en cuenta que el profeta no dijo la tierra \"podr\u00eda<\/em> estar lleno\", \"estar\u00e1<\/em> lleno\" o \" debe<\/em> estar lleno \"de su gloria.
