JAMES PAUL WARD, SR. <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Reverend James Paul Ward, Sr., age 76, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 17, 2020. He was born April 1, 1944, in Brazil, S.A. to Rev. Horace S. and Eva Carolyn (Hall) Ward, Sr. He spent the first seven years of his life in Brazil until returning to the U.S. He attended Holmes Theological Seminary, Greenville, SC; Cedarville University, Cedarville, OH; Ambassador Bible Institute, London, OH; and Lee College, Cleveland, TN where he earned a B.S. in Elementary Education in 1973. He later attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, TX.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">James was ordained into the ministry of the International Pentecostal Church of Christ on August 13, 1965, and pastored the headquarters church in London, OH. In 1979 he was ordained in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. James and his family traveled throughout the Western North Carolina Conference of the denomination conducting Vacation Bible School programs, children\u2019s crusades, youth camps, and teacher training seminars. He also pastored Worthville Pentecostal Holiness Church in Randleman, NC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Having grown up in a missionary home, his lifelong dream was to serve God as a missionary. In 2002 James and Joyce began full-time ministry with the International Pentecostal Holiness Church in Guatemala. He traveled throughout the country leading Bible training seminars with pastors and led mission teams in building programs and medical clinics. They served as career missionaries from November 2002 to 2010. After retirement, James returned to Guatemala frequently for short-term mission trips to build churches and continue the People to People ministry. He attended the North Pointe Pentecostal Holiness Church as long as his health permitted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Horace S. Ward, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, of 54 years who faithfully served as his caretaker and companion throughout his illness. He is also survived by his son, Dr. James P. Ward, Jr. (Joy) of Anchorage, AK; his daughters, Joylita Terpstra (Tracy) of Cleveland, TN and Janiese McKenzie (Aaron) of Jamestown, NC; grandchildren, Tr\u00e9s Ward (Rachael), Justin Ward (Elizabeth), Karis Moreland (Chase), Jaylyne Ward, Katherine Terpstra, Matthias Terpstra, and Ashton McKenzie; and great-granddaughter Felicity Ward. On Mother\u2019s Day, he was told that he would soon be blessed with a second great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his brother, Duteil Ward of Xenia, OH, brother-in-law Curtis Parks of Holly Springs, NC, and sisters-in-law Marilyn Ward of Yukon, OK, Frances Partin of Black Mountain, NC, Darlene Odom (Franklin) of Cleveland, TN and Faye Nelon of Black Mountain, NC, and many nieces and nephews. James has been blessed with a host of friends around the world and the precious people of Guatemala whom he worked alongside and who embraced him fondly as \u201cSantiago\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to International Pentecostal Holiness Church World Missions, Guatemala, P.O. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm at Mountlawn Memorial Park, 196 Fan Key Rd, North Wilkesboro, NC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Online condolences can be made at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com\"  rel=\"noopener\">www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><em>A Note from World Missions Ministries<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Rev. and Mrs. Ward were exceptionally effective career missionaries whose legacies remain deeply imprinted on the ministry fabric of the country of Guatemala.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Once a country has been developed and indigenous leaders \u2018raised up\u2019 and positioned to lead a country, the role of a missionary becomes very different in that the missionary transitions from being an apostolic, visionary, pioneering leader to a ministry mentor and partner in helping the national leadership envision the future of their country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Robert Clinton, in his book <em><u>The Making of a Leader,<\/u><\/em>\u00a0introduces us to a concept that he characterizes as \u201cministerial convergence.\u201d \u201cThis is a time when life experience coupled together with revelation acquired from the Word, wisdom in practice, one\u2019s unique gift mix, his refined life message, his specialized anointing and his life pool of accumulated resources all converge to create the most productive yield of fruitfulness in his ministry.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Every investment, deposit, and experience in James Ward Sr.\u2019s make-up as a leader was in preparation for his assignment as a career missionary in Guatemala.\u00a0 He excelled in this ministry role.\u00a0 His love for people, his servant heart, his humility, the ease in which he could communicate with people of all ages, his accessibility, his ability to invest in the lives of others as he drew from his vast reservoir of experience, his spiritual discernment, and availability endeared him to the people of Guatemala like few others.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">WMM\u2019s Regional Director for The Gulf of Mexico, Rev. Ron Roy, called me shortly after Rev. Ward went to be with the Lord. \u00a0Knowing that James, Sr. and Bishop Atilio Chavez, Superintendent of the PHC in Guatemala, shared a very special friendship, I asked Ron to have Atilio send me a paragraph that WMM would include as a part of our tribute to Rev. Ward, Sr.\u00a0 This is what Bishop Atilio then sent to me:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><em>The Apostle of Love:<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>James Paul Ward - Santiago. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>With his songs and tears he taught us the gospel of love. He didn't use a pulpit to preach; he always preached with his acts.\u00a0 <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>\u201cBrother Jim, Brother Jim!\u201d were the happy voices of the children running with their arms open and a smile on their faces. \u201cMi children\u201d were the words that used to come out of his heart.\u00a0 <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>I can't contain me to cry as I remember his acts of kindness, his personality, and his delivery to his people, as he used to call us, and demonstrate.\u00a0 <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>Eating at the same table, even though the table was the poorest and unhealthy, at the end, He always used to ask for a fresh tortilla and a bit of salt, and, with a smile on his face, he would eat it slowly to enjoy of our fellowship and then he would say: \u201cThis is the poor man's food.\u201d <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><em>A Legacy of Courage: <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>We were serving at the church, and by the evening we left even though the brothers at church begged not to do so. We were not aware of the danger, the Stan storm (2005) hit us on the way, and in less than an hour, the whole road had become a river. We were about to be carried away by the current; he always showed strength. Or that time that a truck lost his load and hit our car and almost destroyed it. Even in that moment, or on the darkest nights alone in the road, those were the moments he would sing hymns.\u00a0 <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>Thank you for all the hours on the highway. When we got home at midnight or early morning. In the dangers, he was always strong. In the need he was compassionate and above all he was loving.\u00a0 <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>His unforgettable song: <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>If Christ goes with me, I will go<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>I will not fear<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>I will go with joy<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>With me goes<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>It is pleasant to serve Jesus<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>Carry the cross<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>If Christ goes with me, I will go<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I was privileged to visit Guatemala in 2014 for their General Conference.\u00a0 Rev. and Mrs. Ward were also in attendance.\u00a0 What a privilege it was to see them interact with our family members in Guatemala.\u00a0 You could tell that they were at home as they called them by name, loved on them, worshipped with them, encouraged them, supported them, and prayed with and for them.\u00a0 I also got to have lunch with James, Sr. and Joyce and watched James Sr. order one last tortilla, take the salt shaker and pour some salt onto it, and then with a big smile on his face as he began to slowly eat it savoring every bite, exclaim to the delight of those at our table that \u201cThis is the poor man's food.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Mrs. Joyce, we thank you for loving and caring for James, Sr. so tenderly for the past fifty-four [54] years.\u00a0 You were and are a part of every success that James enjoyed as your gifts empowered and released James to exercise his unencumbered.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Scripture pronounces a blessing on those who mourn.\u00a0 May that special anointing be extended to you as you mourn the loss of your husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Know that you have been and will continue to be in the thoughts, prayers, and hearts of your missionary family.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u2018The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em>Bishop J. Al convertirla en el hom\u00f3nimo de su padre, sin darse cuenta, la estaban nombrando como la persona sobre quien caer\u00eda el manto de una larga l\u00ednea de ministerio. Estuvo casada con el reverendo Russel B. West en 1950 y de esta uni\u00f3n nacieron cuatro hijos: Paul, Kathryn, conocidos como Kathy, Joseph y Philip. En 1960, el Se\u00f1or llam\u00f3 a Charlene para predicar, y ella y Russel formaron un exitoso equipo ministerial para avanzar en la obra del Se\u00f1or en varias iglesias. El Se\u00f1or consider\u00f3 oportuno promover a Russel a su recompensa celestial el 7 de enero de 1969 mientras pastoreaba en Bakersfield, California. Como Charlene hab\u00eda estudiado espa\u00f1ol universitario, Russel, justo antes de irse a casa, hab\u00eda ofrecido sus servicios como voluntaria para acompa\u00f1ar a un equipo de J\u00f3venes en Acci\u00f3n a Costa Rica. Aunque sus actividades cambiaron mucho, la junta de la iglesia sinti\u00f3 que deber\u00eda aceptar esta invitaci\u00f3n, ya que era algo que su esposo hab\u00eda querido que hiciera. <\/p><p> Fue despu\u00e9s de este viaje que el Se\u00f1or renov\u00f3 una visi\u00f3n que le hab\u00eda dado en 1960, donde se hab\u00eda visto a s\u00ed misma yendo hacia el sur a trav\u00e9s de M\u00e9xico, Am\u00e9rica Central y hacia Am\u00e9rica del Sur. Ella ofreci\u00f3 voluntariamente sus servicios al Departamento de Misiones Mundiales del IPHC, y comenz\u00f3 una carrera de servicio que dur\u00f3 22 a\u00f1os en Costa Rica, Venezuela, Colombia y otras partes de Am\u00e9rica Latina como maestra de equipo para capacitaci\u00f3n ministerial avanzada. Tuvo el privilegio de ver el desarrollo de un liderazgo nacional sobresaliente durante este tiempo y decidi\u00f3 regresar a los Estados Unidos. Inmediatamente se le ofreci\u00f3 un puesto en el Departamento de Evangelismo para convertirse en la primera directora de Ministerios Hispanos e Interculturales de la denominaci\u00f3n. Ocup\u00f3 este cargo durante siete a\u00f1os, cuando Dios volvi\u00f3 a cambiar su horario de ministerio de trabajo. <\/p><p> Ella estaba en la Conferencia General con los elementos de comuni\u00f3n en sus manos, cuando Dios habl\u00f3 claramente: <em>estoy cambiando su trabajo.<\/em> Ella esper\u00f3 que el Se\u00f1or le diera la informaci\u00f3n que necesitaba sobre su pr\u00f3xima asignaci\u00f3n, y un d\u00eda lleg\u00f3: establecer una iglesia hispana que capacitar\u00eda a los ministros para ser plantadores de iglesias. Ella comenz\u00f3 el Centro de Celebraci\u00f3n y lo pastore\u00f3 durante 13 a\u00f1os. Para entonces, ten\u00eda m\u00e1s de 81 a\u00f1os y decidi\u00f3 que deb\u00eda dejar que alguien m\u00e1s joven tomara las riendas de esta maravillosa iglesia. Despu\u00e9s de retirarse de la pastoral, el Se\u00f1or la ungi\u00f3 para que escribiera, y ella ha publicado 15 libros, algunos en ingl\u00e9s y otros en espa\u00f1ol. Mientras continuaba ense\u00f1ando y entrenando a trav\u00e9s de sus libros, su gran alegr\u00eda fue ver a sus disc\u00edpulos captar la visi\u00f3n que proyectaba plantar iglesias y extender el reino de Dios. <\/p><p> Si bien las metas del ministerio han sido importantes para Charlene, ella hab\u00eda considerado a sus propios hijos como los regalos m\u00e1s preciosos que Dios le hab\u00eda dado. En su vejez, se han quedado, cuidando el hogar, haci\u00e9ndola feliz con flores, cenas, tarjetas muy especiales, etc. Ella deja a su hijo Paul y su esposa, Kay, su hija Kathy y su esposo, Gary Petty y sus hijos, Joseph y Philip. Ella tambi\u00e9n deja a sus nietos, sus c\u00f3nyuges y sus bisnietos. Queridas para ella son sus hermanas: Evelyn Thurmond y Betty Cramp, as\u00ed como una gran cantidad de otros familiares y tantos amigos cristianos maravillosos. Mientras te dice &quot;adi\u00f3s&quot; hoy, su deseo es que cada uno de ustedes la conozca justo dentro de la puerta oriental cuando, tambi\u00e9n, terminen el viaje de la vida para embarcarse en uno que no tiene fin. <\/p><p> Servicios funerarios en Ingl\u00e9s se llevar\u00e1 a cabo a las 10 horas, y en espa\u00f1ol a las 13:00 el s\u00e1bado 14 de <sup>marzo<\/sup> de 2020 en el Centro Iglesia De Celebracion ubicado en 4725 NW 10 <sup>de<\/sup> la calle en Oklahoma City, OK. <\/p><p> El entierro se llevar\u00e1 a cabo al mediod\u00eda del lunes 16 de marzo de 2020 en el cementerio de Longwood ubicado en Ponca City, OK. <\/p><h2> <strong>Declaraci\u00f3n: Ministerios de Misiones Mundiales<\/strong> <\/h2><p> En nombre de la familia de Misiones Mundiales de la IPHC, honramos y recordamos, con gratitud, el legado de vida y ministerio de Charlene Helen West. Damos gracias a Dios por su servicio como misionera y ministra venerada y apreciada del evangelio de Jesucristo. <\/p><p> La Rev. West fue ordenada como misionera de carrera por la Junta de Misiones Mundiales en 1969. Sirvi\u00f3 en Costa Rica de 1969 a 1977 y en Venezuela de 1978 a 1991: un total de veintid\u00f3s a\u00f1os. Su impacto como mentora y sembradora de iglesias todav\u00eda da frutos hoy. <strong>Ella es, sin lugar a dudas, una de las misioneras m\u00e1s queridas y efectivas que el IPHC haya tenido en el campo.<\/strong> Constantemente encuentro hombres y mujeres que consideran a Charlene como su madre espiritual. <\/p><p> Tuve el privilegio de servir con Charlene en Evangelism USA cuando ella sirvi\u00f3 a la Iglesia General como la primera directora de Ministerios Hispanos e Interculturales. Ella era natural para esta tarea. Tambi\u00e9n observ\u00e9 mientras ella abandonaba ese papel y volv\u00eda al pastorado. <strong>\u00a1Charlene fue una de las fundadoras de iglesias y l\u00edderes ministeriales m\u00e1s efectivas que he conocido personalmente en mi vida!<\/strong> <\/p><p> Paul, Kathy, Joseph y Philip, tienes una herencia maravillosa. Sepa que usted ha estado y continuar\u00e1 estando en los pensamientos y oraciones de su familia misionera. La escritura pronuncia una bendici\u00f3n sobre los que lloran. Que esa unci\u00f3n especial se extienda a ti mientras lloras la partida terrenal de tu querida madre. <\/p><p> Nacemos, vivimos, morimos. Pero tambi\u00e9n sabemos que estamos en manos de Dios, que no conoce el tiempo y es eterno.
