MISSIONS IN A PANDEMIC<\/span><\/h2>\n

The global coronavirus pandemic has affected every country in the world. However, as a wise man said, although we are all in the same storm, we are not all in the same boat. Countries vary greatly in terms of their quality of health care and the resources they can bring to battle the virus. Crowded and unsanitary living conditions greatly increase the risks of transmitting disease.<\/p>\n

In India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal, the vast majority of the population are not salaried workers, but day laborers who depend upon each day's wages to buy food. Forced to stay at home under weeks or months of quarantine, construction workers, vendors, rickshaw drivers, garment workers, and others are simply unable to support their families. For them, the threat of starvation is more urgent than the threat of the virus.<\/p>\n

MOBILIZING IN A CRISIS<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Great Commission is not on hold during this pandemic. On the contrary, the church is called to step forward in times of crisis and offer help in the name of Christ. IPHC World Missions has set up a special COVID-19 International Relief fund, and is partnering together with our national churches to show compassion and generosity to those who are suffering.<\/p>\n

In north India, the government is overwhelmed by the extent of the need, and has called upon the churches to help. Bishop Michael John reports, \"Our church people are coming forward to donate to this ministry and show the love of Christ to their communities. In a society where Christians are viewed with suspicion and hostility, this is a great opportunity to show what we stand for. We are confident that these acts of generosity will open up new doors for ministry.\"<\/p>\n

In Nepal, our missionaries in lockdown managed to work together with our national leaders to extend help to a large number of pastors, who, in turn, assisted their congregations. Unlike in India, the government does not want to see the churches involved in this kind of charity work, so our people have had to find creative ways to get help to those in need. By the grace of God and the heroic efforts of the leaders, well over 700 families have been blessed with food assistance.<\/p>\n

RADICAL GENEROSITY<\/span><\/h2>\n

This year, our denominational emphasis is on the core value of generosity. How can people be expected to give when their own families are struggling financially?<\/p>\n

Listen to this testimony from the Apostle Paul: \"We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part\" (2 Corinthians 8:1-2). In the midst of poverty and affliction, these churches somehow found a way to give to others in need. It was to these very churches that Paul wrote: \"My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus\" (Philippians 4:19). The truth is, you can\u2019t out-give God!<\/p>\n

POINTS FOR PRAYER<\/span><\/h2>\n

\u2022 Pray that the seeds of love and generosity sown by our churches in India will bring new favor with thegovernment, and yield a harvest of revival among the towns and villages.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Pray for a swift end to the lockdowns and curfews in these poor nations, that people may be able to support their families. Also, pray that the coronavirus will be stopped.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Pray for the missionaries whose travel and ministry are limited due to lockdowns and restrictions, that they may continue to encourage and counsel and evangelize using whatever means necessary.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Pray that God will do a deep work in His people and churches around the world during this season, and thatthis global calamity will usher in a global revival.<\/p>\n

SEMBRANDO Y CEGANDO EN CAMBOYA<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\r\nCamboya se encuentra entre los pa\u00edses m\u00e1s pobres de Asia, tanto material como espiritualmente. Han pasado cuarenta a\u00f1os desde que Pol Pot y su Khmer Rouge mataron a m\u00e1s de dos millones de personas en un intento de establecer una utop\u00eda agraria comunista, pero el legado de esos a\u00f1os del holocausto todav\u00eda se puede observar en una grave falta de infraestructura, educaci\u00f3n, oportunidades y esperanza. Menos del 1% de los camboyanos conocen a Jesucristo como Se\u00f1or y Salvador.\r\n\r\nEn septiembre, Russell ayud\u00f3 a organizar y dirigir un equipo de ministerio a Camboya para realizar una serie de cl\u00ednicas m\u00e9dicas en varias aldeas. Los miembros del equipo proced\u00edan de Carolina del Norte, Carolina del Sur, Georgia, Jap\u00f3n y Filipinas.\r\n\r\nLas condiciones eran a menudo r\u00fasticas ya que llev\u00e1bamos a cabo cl\u00ednicas en las iglesias de las aldeas. En un lugar, los funcionarios locales nos obligaron a cerrar. El gobierno budista autoritario vigila de cerca y en ocasiones restringe las actividades de los cristianos.\r\n\r\nEn otras aldeas, las autoridades enviaron polic\u00edas y m\u00e9dicos locales para observarnos, pero estos se fueron impresionados por la experiencia y la amabilidad de nuestro equipo. \u00a1Incluso se unieron al trabajo y nos invitaron a volver!\r\n\r\nLas madres j\u00f3venes estaban agradecidas de recibir vitaminas y medicamentos para las enfermedades de sus hijos, mientras que los ancianos estaban encantados de recibir anteojos para leer. Adem\u00e1s de ofrecer atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica b\u00e1sica y palabras de esperanza y aliento, los miembros del equipo tambi\u00e9n oraron por los pacientes que buscaron su ayuda. \u00a1La oraci\u00f3n es la mejor medicina de todas!\r\n\r\nJunto con el personal m\u00e9dico, tuvimos la bendici\u00f3n de tener un contingente de j\u00f3venes sobresalientes para ministrar a los ni\u00f1os en cada lugar. \u00a1Estamos orgullosos de decir que nuestro nieto Alex fue parte de este din\u00e1mico equipo!\r\n\r\nLos ni\u00f1os disfrutaron jugando juegos al aire libre, haciendo manualidades, escuchando historias b\u00edblicas, aprendiendo canciones del evangelio y \u00a1simplemente divirti\u00e9ndose! Lo mejor de todo es que los ni\u00f1os aprendieron a orarle a Jes\u00fas y tuvieron la oportunidad de ofrecerle sus vidas.\r\n\r\nEn a\u00f1os pasados, hemos invertido tiempo, esfuerzo y financiamiento en viajes similares, ayudando a trabajos pioneros y cavando pozos para aldeas. En este viaje, nos complaci\u00f3 especialmente ver el fruto de estas inversiones en la forma de florecer nuevas iglesias.\r\n

PUNTOS PARA LA ORACI\u00d3N<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\r\n\u2022 Ore para que las iglesias en Camboya no sean oprimidas y restringidas en sus actividades, sino que tengan libertad para adorar y difundir el evangelio.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Nuestras iglesias est\u00e1n ayudando a los j\u00f3venes en sus comunidades al ense\u00f1ar ingl\u00e9s y ofrecer capacitaci\u00f3n en computaci\u00f3n. Ore para que los j\u00f3venes est\u00e9n equipados para servir al Se\u00f1or y traer prosperidad a su naci\u00f3n.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Ore por el misionero que lidera nuestro trabajo en Camboya, el Rev. Merlen Lamanilao de Filipinas. Ore por su apoyo financiero y por su hija adolescente que pronto se graduar\u00e1 de la escuela secundaria.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Ore por los pr\u00f3ximos viajes a Tailandia y Nepal, por viajes seguros y un ministerio eficaz.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Nuestro apoyo financiero ha disminuido, lo que ha obstaculizado nuestra capacidad para viajar y ministrar.
