Healing for Body and Soul<\/h1>\n

In September, Russell helped lead a medical team on a mission trip to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The team included members from the U.S. and the Philippines, working together to demonstrate the love of Christ in practical ways and to assist the ministry of local churches.<\/p>\n

Bangladesh<\/strong>
\nThe first clinic was held in a remote village where a new church plant has been initiated. With no local doctor in the village, many took advantage of the opportunity for a free medical consultation. In addition to medicine and advice, many received special prayers for their ailments and needs.<\/p>\n

Over the next two days, clinics were held at the Holiness Academy in Dhaka. This beautiful campus serves as a boarding school for Christian students from distant villages, as well as a day school for local students, mostly from Muslim families.<\/p>\n

The atmosphere was very warm and welcoming, and the patients felt grateful and at ease. The doctors listened attentively to each individual, and we often joined in prayer for those in need.<\/p>\n

Sri Lanka<\/strong>
\nAn overnight flight took us from Dhaka to Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka. A four-hour drive across the mountains then carried us to Hatton, the site of many 170-year-old tea gardens planted under British rule. Sadly, generations of tea pickers have been trapped in this back-breaking labor with little opportunity for education and better jobs.<\/p>\n

Our first clinic in Hatton was held at House of Praise church, which recently joined IPHC Sri Lanka. Our doctors were busy doing checkups for families and handing out medicines. We also passed out scores of reading glasses, which put a smile on the faces of older folks whose vision is waning.<\/p>\n

The following day was Sunday, and it was a joy to worship together with the House of Praise congregation. A highlight was the credentialing ceremony, where we awarded ministerial licenses to Pastor Croos and his son, Pastor Justin. We are confident that their labor will bring great blessings and much lasting fruit.<\/p>\n

Near Hatton, we were impressed to encounter the world\u2019s tallest bamboo trees, which grow to heights of 60 to 80 feet at the rate of one foot per day! The roots spend seven years underground before bursting forth in this explosive growth. We want to spend our efforts in Sri Lanka making sure the roots of our ministry are planted deep in Biblical truth, drawing on the nourishing life of the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n

Points for Prayer<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Pray for special blessings on the team members from America and the Philippines who sacrificed personal time and finances to bring the love of Christ to Asia.
\n\u2022 Pray for the teachers and students of Holiness Academy in Bangladesh. Pray that students will experience the love of Jesus and build their lives on the truth of His Word.
\n\u2022 Pray for House of Praise church in Hatton, that the light of Christ shining there will draw many villagers to salvation.
\n\u2022 Pray especially for Pastor Michael, the newly appointed Coordinator of IPHC Ministry in Sri Lanka. After much prayer, he has stepped into this role by faith. Pray for financial support for his ministry (WMM Project #72501P).<\/p>\n

SEMBRANDO Y CEGANDO EN CAMBOYA<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\r\nCamboya se encuentra entre los pa\u00edses m\u00e1s pobres de Asia, tanto material como espiritualmente. Han pasado cuarenta a\u00f1os desde que Pol Pot y su Khmer Rouge mataron a m\u00e1s de dos millones de personas en un intento de establecer una utop\u00eda agraria comunista, pero el legado de esos a\u00f1os del holocausto todav\u00eda se puede observar en una grave falta de infraestructura, educaci\u00f3n, oportunidades y esperanza. Menos del 1% de los camboyanos conocen a Jesucristo como Se\u00f1or y Salvador.\r\n\r\nEn septiembre, Russell ayud\u00f3 a organizar y dirigir un equipo de ministerio a Camboya para realizar una serie de cl\u00ednicas m\u00e9dicas en varias aldeas. Los miembros del equipo proced\u00edan de Carolina del Norte, Carolina del Sur, Georgia, Jap\u00f3n y Filipinas.\r\n\r\nLas condiciones eran a menudo r\u00fasticas ya que llev\u00e1bamos a cabo cl\u00ednicas en las iglesias de las aldeas. En un lugar, los funcionarios locales nos obligaron a cerrar. El gobierno budista autoritario vigila de cerca y en ocasiones restringe las actividades de los cristianos.\r\n\r\nEn otras aldeas, las autoridades enviaron polic\u00edas y m\u00e9dicos locales para observarnos, pero estos se fueron impresionados por la experiencia y la amabilidad de nuestro equipo. \u00a1Incluso se unieron al trabajo y nos invitaron a volver!\r\n\r\nLas madres j\u00f3venes estaban agradecidas de recibir vitaminas y medicamentos para las enfermedades de sus hijos, mientras que los ancianos estaban encantados de recibir anteojos para leer. Adem\u00e1s de ofrecer atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica b\u00e1sica y palabras de esperanza y aliento, los miembros del equipo tambi\u00e9n oraron por los pacientes que buscaron su ayuda. \u00a1La oraci\u00f3n es la mejor medicina de todas!\r\n\r\nJunto con el personal m\u00e9dico, tuvimos la bendici\u00f3n de tener un contingente de j\u00f3venes sobresalientes para ministrar a los ni\u00f1os en cada lugar. \u00a1Estamos orgullosos de decir que nuestro nieto Alex fue parte de este din\u00e1mico equipo!\r\n\r\nLos ni\u00f1os disfrutaron jugando juegos al aire libre, haciendo manualidades, escuchando historias b\u00edblicas, aprendiendo canciones del evangelio y \u00a1simplemente divirti\u00e9ndose! Lo mejor de todo es que los ni\u00f1os aprendieron a orarle a Jes\u00fas y tuvieron la oportunidad de ofrecerle sus vidas.\r\n\r\nEn a\u00f1os pasados, hemos invertido tiempo, esfuerzo y financiamiento en viajes similares, ayudando a trabajos pioneros y cavando pozos para aldeas. En este viaje, nos complaci\u00f3 especialmente ver el fruto de estas inversiones en la forma de florecer nuevas iglesias.\r\n

PUNTOS PARA LA ORACI\u00d3N<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\r\n\u2022 Ore para que las iglesias en Camboya no sean oprimidas y restringidas en sus actividades, sino que tengan libertad para adorar y difundir el evangelio.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Nuestras iglesias est\u00e1n ayudando a los j\u00f3venes en sus comunidades al ense\u00f1ar ingl\u00e9s y ofrecer capacitaci\u00f3n en computaci\u00f3n. Ore para que los j\u00f3venes est\u00e9n equipados para servir al Se\u00f1or y traer prosperidad a su naci\u00f3n.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Ore por el misionero que lidera nuestro trabajo en Camboya, el Rev. Merlen Lamanilao de Filipinas. Ore por su apoyo financiero y por su hija adolescente que pronto se graduar\u00e1 de la escuela secundaria.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Ore por los pr\u00f3ximos viajes a Tailandia y Nepal, por viajes seguros y un ministerio eficaz.\r\n\r\n\u2022 Nuestro apoyo financiero ha disminuido, lo que ha obstaculizado nuestra capacidad para viajar y ministrar.
