{"id":976,"date":"2016-03-22T16:39:54","date_gmt":"2016-03-22T16:39:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iphc.org\/missions\/?p=976"},"modified":"2016-03-23T16:46:52","modified_gmt":"2016-03-23T16:46:52","slug":"a-tribute-to-velda-hough-1932-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iphc.org\/missions\/a-tribute-to-velda-hough-1932-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"A Tribute to Velda Hough (1932-2016)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iphc.org\/missions\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/03\/Velda-Hough-March-16-2016.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-977\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-977 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/iphc.org\/missions\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/03\/Velda-Hough-March-16-2016-263x300.jpg\" alt=\"Velda Hough\" width=\"263\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iphc.org\/missions\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/03\/Velda-Hough-March-16-2016-263x300.jpg 263w, https:\/\/iphc.org\/missions\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/03\/Velda-Hough-March-16-2016.jpg 371w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/><\/a><em>&#8220;Velda Ruth Cunningham Hough,\u00a083, of\u00a0Oklahoma City, OK, left her earthly life to join the throngs of the redeemed on\u00a0March 12, 2016.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Velda\u00a0was born in\u00a0Calvin, OK\u00a0on\u00a0June 30, 1932, the second of eight children.\u00a0She\u00a0graduated from\u00a0Wewoka High School\u00a0and continued her education at\u00a0Southwestern Christian University. In the 1960\u2019s, Velda returned to her studies, earning a degree in Spanish and Music as a double major from the University of Southern Florida.\u00a0 She completed her Master\u2019s Degree in Education in 1974 at Pan American University in <span class=\"_Xbe\">Edinburg<\/span>, Texas.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Velda\u00a0was married to\u00a0Robert H. Hough; they were married 39 years, serving as pastors in Eastern Oklahoma and Florida, and as missionaries to Cuba and Mexico.\u00a0 They also gave several years of service to the Texas Conference of the IPHC.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Velda\u00a0worked as a\u00a0teacher, missionary, and a Special Ed Diagnostician.\u00a0She was a musician and enjoyed making music on a variety of instruments, raising a garden of flowers, learning new languages, and spending time with her family. She\u00a0was also actively involved in teaching Bible classes wherever invited as well as English as a second language.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Velda\u00a0is survived by\u00a0one daughter, Faith Ellen Hough Nix of Oklahoma City, two sons, Robert (Buddy) Joel Hough of McAllen, TX, Charles Byron Hough and wife, Mayra, of Corpus Christi; ten grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth White Campbell and husband Shawn, Drew Edward White and wife, Avalon, Jayson Robert Hough and wife Jamie, Josie Catherine Hough McAllister and husband, Josh, Dora Linda Hough, David Willis Hough, Jaron Matthew Nix and wife Kori, Pierce Addison Nix, Destiny Marie Jones-Nix, Rebecca Rose Hough Albers and husband John; brother David Lee Cunningham and wife Sharon; four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Velda\u00a0is preceded in death by\u00a0her parents Thelma Catherine Williams Cunningham and Clarence Homer Cunningham; sisters Neva Floy Cunningham Alt, Barbara Faith Cunningham Forsythe, Enide Lou Cunningham Adair; brothers Buddy Addison Cunningham, Bryant Homer Cunningham, and John Dennis Cunningham; and by her beloved daughter Robin Elizabeth Hough White.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><em>Memorial donations may be given to\u00a0to World Missions Ministries, P.O. Mexico where Velda taught as a missionary.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The family of\u00a0Velda Hough wishes to thank\u00a0the Deacons and Deaconesses of Crown Heights Christian Church who were faithful to visit and send cards and remembrances, and countless others who have shown Velda and her family loving and prayerful support. A \u201cCelebration of Life\u201d service was held on March 16, 2016 at the Crown Heights Christian Church, conducted by Pastor-Reverend Aaron Krueger and Rev. Bob Ely.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>World Missions Ministries Division would like to pay special tribute to Velda Hough&#8217;s life. As we are deeply saddened and grieved by her death, we rejoice in the eternal life she is now experiencing with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are grateful for the true gift that she was to the IPHC family and the Kingdom of God.<\/p>\n<p>Velda&#8217;s legacy will undoubtedly be carried on by the continued ministry in Cuba and Mexico, especially the work of Emmanuel Bible College.
