SCU will host a book release & signing April 27 to honor the life and service of music professor Ray Ballew. All proceeds will go to the Ray Ballew Music Scholarship Foundation.

Ballew has long been heralded as a "fixture" of the college's music program, having served and encouraged countless students in their fine arts aspirations. Although he is now retired, he continues to work with the school's music theater performances.

In the spring of 2010, Southwestern Christian University alumni Tom Nix had the vision to pay a long overdue tribute to Mr. Ballew. Securing the help of award winning writer Dr. Robert C. Grupe and editor Dr. Peter Pierro, Tom collaborated with thousands of people whose lives have been touched by Dr. Ballew, encouraging him to start the book Ray Ballew: His Life, His Legacy. The Story of a Person who Makes a Difference.

The celebration and book signing will take place Friday, April 27th in the SCU Conference Center located on the bottom level of the North Dorm. Cost is $20 and includes dinner and a concert performed by many of Mr. Ballew's current and former students. Books will be sold for $12 the night of the event and $10 if they are pre-ordered.

For more information about the event or to pre-order a book, contact Tom Nix at 405-406-3201 or tomlnixmusic@yahoo.com.

Comments

I have been thinking of Mr. Ballew lately and wondering where he is today, he was my music teacher at U.S. Grant way back in the early 60's. He had a photographic memory that amazed all of us on the first day of school every year, he was truly an inspiration in my life. I often said if there were more teachers like him this would be a much better world! If you talk to him please tell him a former voice student has thought of him many times in her life, about how wonderful he is and thanks him for being that incredible teacher who will never be forgotten! I wish I had known of this book signing, I would certainly have been there!
