Clarence Ronny Lawson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, soon to be great-grandfather, and pastor, passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters. Born on May 19, 1955, in Flint, Michigan, Clarence was a beacon of light to all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and love.
Clarence was the cherished son of the late Jake Walter Lawson and Charlene Lawson and the dear brother of his late sister, Martha Gail Lawson. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Teresa Lawson, whom he married on April 2, 1978, in Monett, Arkansas. Together, they built a life rich in love, faith, and service, raising two beautiful daughters: Deanna Pate, married to Caleb Pate of Brandon, Mississippi, and Christy DeNote, married to Jason DeNote of Clarksville, Tennessee.
A proud grandfather, Clarence leaves behind his adored grandchildren: Luke, Olivia, Kaleb, Cami, and Riley DeNote, and Aria and Aaron Pate. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends, all of whom will dearly miss his joyful presence.
Clarence’s educational journey took him from Fairley High School in Memphis, Tennessee, to Southwestern College of Christian Ministries, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Christian Ministry and a Master of Ministry. His calling to serve was evident in his 42 years as a pastor, ordained in 1994 by the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. His commitment to spiritual care extended beyond the pulpit; Clarence served as a Hospice Chaplain at Legacy Hospice for seven years and as a Chaplain at Jackson General Hospital for four. As a Board-Certified Chaplain and a Credentialed Supervisor Educator, he was an integral part of the Spiritual Care Chaplains Network through Clinical Pastoral Education International.
Clarence’s passion for ministry was matched only by his love for music. He could often be found singing, playing instruments, or sharing a laugh with one of his legendary dad jokes. An avid golfer, Clarence, appreciated the camaraderie and peacefulness of the game. He recently helped plant a new church named Arise, a testament to his enduring dedication to fostering community and faith.
Known for his quick wit and warm smile, Clarence had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. His love for God, his family, and his community, along with his kindness and generosity, touched countless lives.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Jackson General Chaplains for their unwavering love and support, as well as to their extended family and friends.
As we remember Clarence Ronny Lawson, we celebrate a life well-lived, a soul well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire and bless those who had the privilege to know him.
The family will receive visitors at the church on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Holland Pentecostal Church of God in Holland, Missouri. Interment will follow the funeral service on Wednesday at Pemiscot Memorial Gardens in Caruthersville, Missouri under the direction of Faith Funeral Service.
