The Pentecostal Holiness Church Wing Kwong Junior School was dedicated on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in the Tai Po area of Hong Kong. This is the second IPHC school in Hong Kong. Earlier this year, the Hong Kong IPHC celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Wing Kwong College school. Presiding Bishop Doug Beacham and Executive Director of World Missions, Bishop Talmadge Gardner, participated in this significant dedication event. Visiting Hong Kong with Bishops Beacham and Gardner were Rev. Bryan Nix, Director of People to People, and Rev. Madeline Nix, Director of The Awakening.
The school, which is located next to six high rise apartment buildings which house over 20,000 people, is providing quality education with a Christian emphasis for over 400 students. That number will grow as additional levels are added over the next few years. This is a cooperative effort of the Wing Kwong Pentecostal Holiness Church and the government of Hong Kong. The school is led by Christian administrators and educators.
The school is also the new location for the Tai Po Pentecostal Holiness Church which was established in 1939. As its ministry has grown, the Tai Po church is perfectly located to impact the thousands of families who literally live across the street from the school.
On Sunday afternoon, Bishops Beacham and Gardner participated in the ordination of Rev. Clive W.T. Fong and the licensure of Rev. Fiona P.Y. Lee. The ordination services at the Wing Kwong church are always very special.
From its early years, IPHC ministry in Hong Kong has made education a priority. In 1909,missionary Anna M. Deane started the Pentecostal English School for Chinese Girls and Kindergarten. In 1926, the school was named Wing Kwong, which means “Eternal Light.” The impact of World War II did not stop the growth of the IPHC in Hong Kong. In 1972, Wing Kwong College was founded. Today, the Junior School marks a significant milestone in the IPHC efforts to share the gospel in Hong Kong.
The Wing Kwong Pentecostal Holiness Church is the largest IPHC local congregation in the world with over 6,000 members. We are thankful for the global impact of this congregation and the three conferences that are part of the IPHC in Hong Kong.
