The IPHC regretfully announces the passing of a dear brother from the Eglise de Pentecote du Togo (The Pentecostal Church of Togo). Apostle DEGBO Kokou Mawulomi passed on February 5th, at the Hospital of Notsé. Apostle DEGBO Kokou Mawulomi served as the Lomé-Agoè Area Head and was also the former General Secretary of the Church (2012-2022).
The Eglise de Pentecote du Togo (EPT) is a vibrant, active church in Togo on the west coast of Africa, bordered by Ghana, Benin, and Burkina Faso. Originally started from a church plant in neighboring Ghana in 1920, the church was brought into Togo in the 1940s by two Togolese brothers who received Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior at the church in Ghana. The Pentecostal church is thriving in Togo. According to their website, “Togo has as of December 31, 2016, twenty (20) ecclesiastical regions with more than one hundred and fifty thousand (150,391) members led by two hundred and forty-three (243) pastors.” Apostle DEGBO’s leadership and passion for the church will be sorely missed in these areas.
Presiding Bishop Beacham shared: “The IPHC global family mourns the passing of Apostle DEGBO Kokou Mawulomi of the Pentecostal Church of Togo. I have had the privilege of visiting on several occasions this growing movement in Togo and love the efficiency and dedication of their leadership. They are the IPHC in Togo, and we pray the comfort of the Holy Spirit upon Apostle DEGBO Kokou Mawulomi’s family and the entire movement.”
Bishop Gardner also articulated his condolences: “On behalf of IPHC’s World Missions Ministries [WMM] we join with the Eglise De Pentecote Du Togo in mourning the home going of Apostle DEGBO Kokou Mawulomi. WMM had the privilege of hosting Apostle DEGBO Kokou Mawulomi in 2017 when he attended IPHC’s General Conference in Orlando, Florida. I was also privileged to spend time with Apostle DEGBO Kokou Mawulomi when I visited Togo, the last time being with Rev. Willard Wagner, whom we must thank for developing and knitting this partnership together. We hold all of the leadership and members of the Eglise De Pentecote Du Togo in high esteem. The President of the Church, Apostle Samuel O. A. Lawson honored us by attending WMM’s Global Leadership Summit which was hosted in November 2023 in Oklahoma City. We honor and remember the life and legacy of this Saint of God and gift to our church and The Church, knowing that eternity will fully reveal the impact that Apostle DEGBO Kokou Mawulomi made for the Kingdoms sake.”
The Apostle’s services will begin with a funeral and wake on Friday, February 16 and follow with a burial and thanksgiving service on Saturday, February 17. Please join us in lifting this church and this community in prayer as they lay their brother to rest.
