Typhoon Haiyan, possibly the most powerful tropical storm ever recorded, ripped across the Islands of the Philippines leaving a path of destruction in its wake and killing tens of thousands of people. Packing winds of over 200mph and a tidal surge which flooded coastal communities, Haiyan leveled homes, churches, hospitals and even malls.
Now entire communities have been left without food, water and medical assistance. Al and Coli Argo IPHC missionaries in Cebu, Philippines have requested immediate resources to begin reaching out to the men, women and children left homeless and helpless. Russell Board, Continental Director of Asia, states, “This horrible disaster has left hundreds of thousands of Filipino families homeless and destitute. Partnering together with People to People and our missionaries and churches on the ground, we have the opportunity to help these desperate families in their time of need, touch them with the love of Christ, and give them hope for the future.”
Debra Crook, People to People Regional Coordinator for Asia, lives in Baguio City and will help with the Typhoon Haiyan Disaster Relief.
People to People Ministries has already begun with relief efforts by sending funds to provide food, water and medical supplies. But, with recent and smaller earthquakes still happening, much more is needed as we help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
Will you give a contribution today and help our missionaries reach out with compassion to the people of the Philippines?
