Disaster Relief: Turkey Earthquake
IPHC FAMILY IN TURKEY NEED OUR HELP
-People to People Ministries
TURKEY – On Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, an initial earthquake at magnitude 7.8 with up to 13 aftershocks reaching between 5-7.5 in magnitude shook Turkey. Hours later, a second earthquake at magnitude 7.5 shook the country again.
As Turkey faces the continuation and aftermath of this natural disaster and rescuers search through the rubble of demolished infrastructure for life, IPHC families and affiliates are in a state of concern and prayer and are in need of assistance.
Turkey’s IPHC National Overseer Ismail Serinken reported to Regional Director Bob Cave that our IPHC family in Antioch is safe, but five families have lost their homes and all their possessions. Bishop Serinken also reported the Korean Church we helped establish in 2000 has totally collapsed. One couple, Batmet and Denis who worked with Bishop Serinken in Laodicea, was pulled from the rubble of their collapsed building. Another Turkish family is in need of prayer as their 9-year-old son has been rescued, but, as of Tuesday, his parents were still trapped beneath the wreckage.
During this time, we have two requests: 1. For your prayer over Turkey, its people, and our Church family, and 2. For your financial support as we work to fulfill Bishop Serinken’s prayer that this will be an opportunity to show the love of Christ and that Christians in Turkey will be used as shining lights.
Please know, over the next few months, or until a new disaster hits, People to People will allocate 100% of all donations made to Disaster Relief to our IPHC family in Turkey.
