What Is Woven:
Human Trafficking is modern day slavery. Across the world, women and children are being forced into prostitution and forced labor. It is considered the fastest growing industry in the world and pulls in an estimated $99 billion dollars each year. At this very moment, there are an estimated 24.9 million people trapped in forced labor and sex trafficking across the globe.
People to People has created the Woven fund to support IPHC Missionaries and National Leaders working to end trafficking and support those affected by this dark evil. Primarily, funds will be disbursed to support the ministry efforts of IPHC missionaries Matthew and Femke Helland. Matthew an Femke have a tremendous heart to see others come to know Christ. They are at the very forefront of counter trafficking efforts in Amsterdam, where prostitution is legal.
Meet The Hellands:
Since 2005, Matthew and Femke Helland have been IPHC Missionaries to the Netherlands. Since 2017, Matthew and Femke work together with Scarlet Cord, a ministry with over 30 years of helping victims of human trafficking and helping end forced prostitution. What they do: Out Reach, every week they visit the sex workers who work in Amsterdam’s Red Light District, they reach out through text and e-mail. Build Trust, they earn trust by consistently reaching out to sex workers and not simply by doing one time outreach. They show that they really care. Help, they help them find possible housing, work or job training, as well as solutions for debts and financial problems while helping them grow in confidence and in a healthy self image. Follow Up, through providing personal mentors they help individuals develop in their personal goals and competencies. This prevents relapse into sex work by facilitating healthy relationships and develops a healthy relational network.
What You Can Do:
