Batam, Indonesia –
Local police, accompanied by an army unit, expelled church members from two houses on the GKKI church campus today (GKKI – Gereja Kristen Kudus Indonesia – the IPHC in Indonesia). The expulsion was not peaceful and church members were handled very roughly by the authorities. Several people were injured and were treated in the local hospital. None of the injuries were life threatening.
This confrontation was the result of a battle over legal ownership of the buildings. The local court ruled against the GKKI, thus the eviction of the church members living and working in the properties. The affected members are currently being housed in the church sanctuary until more permanent housing can be secured. There are other buildings on the church’s campus that were not affected by this action. This campus is home to the GKKI’s Batam conference headquarters, local church, mission school & school of ministry and dormitory for the students and local pastors.
GKKI leadership in Batam will continue to petition in the court system to reclaim these properties that they believe were taken from them unjustly. Please pray for the leaders involved in this and for the finances to continue on in this battle.
Please pray for those involved in this entire fiasco. Many have been traumatized by the series of events that have taken place. Please pray for a quick relocation for those now living in the church sanctuary. The Word of God tells us that we “struggle not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of evil in high places.” Please pray that God would restore 100 fold that which was taken.
