January 11th was a significant and memorable day for Presiding Bishop Dr. B. S. Moses Kumar, who leads the IPHC work in South India. A special gathering was held in the Donald Memorial PH church in Hyderabad, marking three milestones in the life of this accomplished leader.
First, a festschrift published in honor of Bishop Moses was officially released. Titled We, The Church: Studies in Mission and Evangelization, the volume was edited as a labor of love by Bishop Moses’ daughters Smith P. Coffey and Donna Tracy Paul, and includes contributions by IPHC notables: Presiding Bishop Dr. A. D. Beacham, Jr., Bishop James Leggett, Dr. Vinson Synan, Dr. Dan Woods, Dr. Harold Dalton, Dr. Terry Tramel, Dr. Hugh Hoyle, Mrs. Lois Hanson Hoyle, and Asia/Pacific Continental Director Rev. Russell Board.
Greetings and remarks were delivered at the release by Russell Board and Dr. J. A. Oliver, Chancellor of the university in Allahabad where Bishop Moses is presently pursuing a Ph.D. in Theology.
Second, a plaque was awarded to Bishop Moses by members of the South India Conference Board and elders of the Donald Memorial PH Church in Hyderabad, marking the completion of 40 years of ministry for the Lord and IPHC. During these forty years Bishop Moses served in the roles of church planter, chaplain, pastor, architect, teacher, administrator, author, editor, historian, lyricist, Bible College director, conference superintendent, and field director for India. Quite a résumé!
Third but not least, the event was held on the 39th wedding anniversary of Bishop Moses and his wife Dora, who has been his valuable partner in every ministry endeavor. They are the parents of two daughters and two sons, and delight in their four (soon to be five) grandchildren.
