Hickory Grove PHC—in Bonneau, SC—has set the bar high for giving sacrificially. An average sized church of about 200 congregants, this body of believers gives an average of $50,000 per year to missions. They raise these funds through several fundraisers throughout the year, the most successful being a Pig Roast where plates are sold for $7 per plate.
In January, a team from Hickory Grove, led by Dawn Morris, ventured to Chancay, Peru to help with
construction on a church. They raised $20,000 to help fund the construction of this church. This church is the sixth church that Hickory Grove has helped to construct in various countries in Latin America. Pastor Reggie Thames is a contractor by trade. Although he wasn’t able to attend this trip due to health reasons, he has trained a group of men from the church in the skills necessary to complete a project like this.
The team left South Carolina with the expectation to make an impact on Peru, which they did in a real way. However, their team of 14 people was so impacted by the overwhelming love from the Peruvians that they will forever be changed. Dawn Morris says, “From the time we set foot on the property at the work site until the last moments we shared with them at the dedication service, the people of this church welcomed us with open arms, as if we had been friends for years.”
At the end of their trip, Iglesia De Santidad Pentecostal “Bethel” hosted a dedication service for the church building the TEAM worked on. Dawn so enjoyed the service: “The dedication service of the church was so sweet. There was not a dry eye in the building. The people of the church love God so much and would tell us everyday that God was in their hearts. They are so hungry to reach out to the lost in Chancay and are so proud to say that they belong to Iglesia De Santidad Pentecostal “Bethel”.
Hickory Grove is eagerly looking forward to their next trip in 2016. For ideas on how you can increase giving to World Missions in your church, contact World Missions Department at wmminfo@iphc.org.
