Don’t you just love sitting on the 50 yard line to watch a football game? What about the Monster seats at Fenway Park? Or center ice for a hockey game or center court for basketball?? These are the best seats in the best sections of the stadiums and the parks of sporting events. No matter what kind of an entertainment event you go to there is always the desire to be in the best section of the place. We want to have the best vantage point to see the game, the play, the concert, the event. However, we are spectators, not participators when we are present at these venues.
Where is your section, or place, in the Kingdom of God? God’s will for you is not to be a spectator in His Kingdom, but a willing and engaged participant in His Kingdom’s purposes. Nehemiah was a mighty man used by God to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem. It seemed like a monumental task. But God gave Nehemiah a strategy. Each family, each clan, took responsibility for a specific section of the wall to rebuild. The work load was distributed evenly and each family and clan took their assignment very seriously. With this strategy, Nehemiah was able to rebuild the wall in 52 days!!
The New Testament teaches that individual believers in Christ are members of the Church, the Body of Christ. The Apostle Paul compares the members of the Body of Christ to the physical parts of the human body. Each member of the Body of Christ is essential in seeing the Kingdom of God grow and multiply on the Earth just as each member of the human body is necessary to make the human body function properly and grow. Yet why do we see many members of the Body of Christ not functioning in their part, their section?
It’s very easy to become distracted with things that are not eternal. For many, the cares and worries of this world seem to choke out the plans and purposes of God and His Kingdom. It looks like many believers are more concerned about being a spectator at the 50 yard line than in the section of the Kingdom God that the Lord has intended for them to labor in and prosper in! The joy and the eternal rewards from participating in God’s Kingdom’s enterprise is more fulfilling than the temporary high of the thrill of the 50 yard line!
The honor and privilege of building God’s Kingdom does not belong solely to pastors, teachers, evangelists, apostles, and prophets. It’s an honor and privilege for every member of the Body of Christ. So take up your place in your section of God’s Kingdom. We are waiting for you to join us. We can’t finish the task of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all the nations without you in your section!
