DRUSA update- God Provides

October 13, 2015

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19 (NKJV)

Over and over again, I have received confirmation of how true this passage of Scripture is. I am constantly overwhelmed by how God responds in various situations; to see God work when Disaster Relief USA (DRUSA) responds with relief and recovery efforts after a catastrophe.

I have an amazing story to report from Friday’s work with the Mobile Feeding Kitchen. As we shared in our previous update, the Kitchen is currently stationed at Kingstree, South Carolina. Initially, we estimated that we would serve approximately 250 meals per day. Yesterday, that number increased to 750 meals. That number continues to rise as we served 900 meals today.

All of the work that our volunteers do with the Kitchen is dependent on having the food supplies to prepare good, hot meals each and every day that we are deployed. There are essentially two ways to resource the feeding ministry; either through financial contributions where we can purchase additional stores or through food contributions from different sources. We saw this take place over and over again with the Moore, Oklahoma deployment in 2013.

Pastor Warren Matthews reported the following story of God’s blessing and provision. Just outside of Charleston, South Carolina is a small town called Mt. Pleasant. And in that town is a small congregation called Six Mile Pentecostal Holiness Church, pastored by Sheila Gabrish. On Friday morning, Pastor Sheila contacted Warren Matthews to see if there were any items that the Kitchen needed. Warren responded by saying, “We desperately need some chicken.” The pastor responded by saying, “Let me see what we can do.”

This is where the story gets interesting. Within a short period of time, Pastor Sheila called Warren back and reported that she was able to acquire some chicken, hamburger, and Boston butts for cooking. In addition, she had obtained some boxes of vegetables. God is faithful . . . however, that’s not the end of the story.

Because of the conditions of the local roads, everyone wondered how all these supplies would be delivered. I guess Pastor Sheila is pretty savvy when it comes to social media. She got on Facebook and tried to find options to get all of the perishable supplies to the Kitchen in a timely manner. Through the power of social media, a company learned of the request and wanted to participate. This company actually provided a helicopter and pilot to deliver the supplies to the Kitchen free of charge. God is good!

What a day! Thank you to Pastor Sheila and the congregation of Six Mile PHC for believing that God still provides and getting much needed supplies to the relief site in Kingstree, SC.

I am asking you to please continue to pray and support this deployment. As I mentioned earlier, there are two ways to resource the feeding ministry; either through financial contributions or through food contributions.
