As you may know, about one week ago, Hurricane Maria slammed into the island of Puerto Rico. This is the third hurricane related disaster that DRUSA has been asked to assist with this season, and it appears to be the worst. Earlier today, the mayor of San Juan stated they are experiencing a humanitarian crisis.
This is a first for us. Disaster Relief USA has never been involved in relief efforts outside of the continental United States. While our Kitchen teams could provide much needed meals, for now, DRUSA’s role will be to assist with raising funds and increasing awareness.
Things are coming together for our response for Puerto Rico. Red de Ministerios Sonshine, through their contacts on the ground, have provided us with information on immediate needs residents have. I commend Bishop Blas Ramirez and his leadership team for laying the groundwork to try and meet the urgent need in Puerto Rico.
Below are some of the most requested items by the residents of Puerto Rico.
* Canned Foods
* Roof Tarps
* Diapers
* Baby wipes
* First Aid Kits
* Non-perishable foods
* Bed Sheets
* All types of Juices
* Solar powered lights
* Sterile Water
* Liquid Surgical Soap
* Bottled Water
* Sterile Antiseptic Solution
* Batteries, especially “D”
We have established two locations in Florida where items can be dropped off.

HOW TO HELP
Blas Ramirez, conference superintendent of Red de Ministerios Sonshine, reports that twelve of their churches in Puerto Rico have experienced serve damage and many of their parishioners are in desperate need; lacking electricity, running water or shelter. We are asking the IPHC family to help our brothers and sisters in Puerto Rico.
