A Tribute to Rev. Marvin Whitfield

January 8, 2019

Rev. Marvin Whitfield
June 29, 1928 – January 5, 2019

Rev. and Mrs. Whitfield are the founders of the Alternative to Abortion Ministries, which later became The Royal Home Ministries, in Salemburg, North Carolina. He served as General Coordinator there for more than 15 years. Feeling a heavy burden for women with unplanned pregnancies, the Whitfields carried a vision for the Pentecostal Holiness Church to have a maternity home for mother and baby care. In 1992, their vision became a reality and over 325 young women have since been served through the ministry of The Royal Home. On November 24, 2014, Royal Home Ministries dedicated the Marvin and Joyce Whitfield Life Campus, which will expand the maternity and aftercare ministries.

Marvin enjoyed being with his family and nurturing his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. His life was, indeed, one of service to God, His church, and people. He gave his heart to the Lord at age 22 in 1950, was licensed to preach in 1954, and was ordained to the Gospel ministry in the N.C. Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1956. In 1957, he graduated from Holmes College of the Bible.

“Marvin and Joyce Whitfield will be remembered in the annals of the IPHC for their compassionate care for the unborn and for women facing difficult pregnancy situations. They obeyed the voice of God to do something for women and their unborn children. Through their diligent efforts, the IPHC today has provided life for hundreds of children and opportunities for their mothers. Marvin Whitfield, who took on this ministry while in his sixties, has shown what it means that we value every generation and that we value justice. May his memory inspire many more to stand in the gap for life.” – Dr. A.D. Beacham, Jr.

His life will be remembered in a worship and celebration service on Wednesday, January 9, at 1 p.m. at Clinton Community Church, 1901 Sunset Avenue, Clinton, NC.
