Free Camp 2014 was an amazing and special time. It is amazing when you think of the hundreds and hundreds of kids that were blessed and encouraged in multiple state sites. It is special because all of those kids got to attend camp for free. There are many different locations and activities, but all the camps approach ministry with the same heart to help children.
Free Camp exists to give kids a free spiritual encounter with God and to break down all types of barriers. These outreach driven and community supported camps have seen countless stories of the wonderful power of God. One story comes from Tiger, Oklahoma. There was a boy at that camp who was just always stayed away from his group. Yet, he was willing to stand still long enough to meet Jesus. That is when amazing meets special. At that incredible moment, you could see a difference coming from the inner workings of his heart.
Also, all the kids that attend are blown away by the quality of these camps and can’t believe they are going to eat more than one meal. In Texas, the Amarillo Free Camp celebrated their 25th anniversary this year. This is an amazing feat and the long term commitment has seen campers become junior helpers and junior helpers become adult leaders. At one of the community outreaches, the Free Camp staff ran into a lady who was a camper in 1998 and she still spoke in amazement and high appreciation for what that camp had meant to her.
Pastor Gary Burd, M25 national director, had God speak to him about this camp and it was birthed in 1990. Over the years it has been an evangelistic tool to reach out to the kids of the community. It doesn’t matter what you look like or how much money your parents make. Free Camp is for all.
