“For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”
Isaiah 9:6-7
In this third week of Advent, Presiding Bishop Doug Beacham reflects on the babe who came to fulfill the law and the prophets, who came to bring about God’s purposes through the promises to Abraham. “He is a wonder of a counselor. He is that counselor that stands in His testimony, His witness of who He is as the risen Lord, the coming King. He stands before all nations, all the rulers, every person and brings about and announces the reality of the coming kingdom of God.”
He is the Mighty God. The Almighty One, who is always with you.
He is the Everlasting Father. The loving Abba Father who loves us and wants us to come back home.
He is the Prince of Peace. The One who is our Shalom, our perfect peace.
On this third week of Advent, let us give thanks for who Jesus is.
