[Description] It is unusual to write a dissertation on a university before
it begins. Equally as unusual is the beginning of the Oral Roberts
University. Since the school will not begin its first academic class until
September 7, 1965, it will be necessary to limit this research to those
events related to the school that occured in its development prior to its
opening and to the proposed projection of it in the future.

[Subjects] Thesis
[Description] In order to understand the theology of the ‘New Church’
movement, something of its history needs to be understood. Like many that
lay claim to their existence as a direct result of the work of the Spirit,
‘New Church’ theology, therefore, is in dialogue with their experinece and
history, and for this reason a historical approach is vital if the
eschatology is to be understood, and further that the eschatology is seen as
but one aspect of a set of beliefs that cohere. Prior to looking at the
historical development, though, is the need to bring some definition to the
terms.

[Description] If a person lives a true Christian life for God, he has many
wonderful but trying experiences. One cannot tell in a few words these
experiences. It is hard for me to express even in words my experiences,
though they have been wonderful.
[Description] So many friends have asked me to write a book of my life with
God, I have decided to do so. It has been a life full of heartache and
pain; yet, through Jesus Christ, it has been enriched with happiness, joy,
and love. Sometimes I have wondered why things have happened the way they
have. Yet, in the end, it all worked out for good.
[Description] This book contains true experiences for God. Nothing has been
exaggerated. God does wonderful things; nothing is impossible through Him.
May you, too, receive a blessing from this book, even as I have received
many throughout my life.

authenticated facts of the Wonderful Works of a man called of God for a

woman and fell a prey to the serpent.

[Description] In my view, the most important contribution of the present
book on “God the Spirit” is that it provides help in coming to a new
perception of God and of God’s power. By stimulating readers to experience
and to understand God and God’s power in new ways, the book serves as a
guide past the mistaken paths of totalistic metaphysics, merely speculative
trinitarianism, abstract mysticism, and irrationalism undertaken by
conventional understandings of the Holy Spirit. It likewise serves as a
guide past empty formulas and mere silence—be it meaningful or
meaningless. The Holy Spirit is neither an intellectual construct nor a
numinous entry.

[Description] This book has evolved from lectures given over the years in
introductory courses on Christian theology at the Divinity School of
Vanderbilt University. Those who have made the most direct contribution to
it are the students who continually pressed for clarification and offered
many original insights of their own. In preparing the work for publication,
I have tried to stay fairly close to the lecture format and to make the book
accessible to beginning students of theology. It is intended as an
introduction to theology, but at the same timeit is more than an
introduction. It is an attempt to set forth a revisioning of Christian
theology, and that has pushed me to the horizons of my own thinking. It
will demand no less of students–but opening up new horizons is what
education is all about.

Pietists with premillenialists? Pentecostals with restorationists? The
self-consiciously Reformed with Black religionists? Or fundamentalists with

each has in some way been identified with American evangelicalism. Just how
appropriate is such identification? How do these various traditions see
themselves in relation to one another and the larger phenomenon known as
evangelicalism?
[Description]
[Description] The editors of this volume have sought answers to these
questions by inviting twelve expert interpreters of these traditions to
compare each tradition’s self-understanding of evangelicalism. The result
is a fascinating collection of essays–of interest to general readers as
well as students and scholars–which make a significant contribution to the
ongoing efforts to define and understand American evangelicalism.

[Description] For centuries, God spoke through prophecies, dreams, and
visions. But after the Bible was complete, God lost his voice–at least
that’s what Jack Deere once believed and taught as a seminary professor.
For Jack, God spoke through the Scriptures. Period. And anyone who claimed
to hear God’s voice today needed a psychiatric examination.
[Description]
[Description] But during a period of intense study, Jack reexamined his
prejudices in light of the Scriptures. He became convinced that God still
speaks today apart from the Bible, but never in contradiction to the Bible.
[Description]
[Description] Surprised by the Voice of God shatters the myth that God
speaks today solely through the Scriptures. Jack Deere first shows the
variety of ways God communicated to first-century Christians. Then he
reveals why God continues to speak to us using those same methods. Finally,
Jack tells how to accurately hear God speak through prophecies, dreams, and
visions, and other forms of divine communication.

[Description] This study concerns itself with metaphors, those sometimes
explicitly acknowledged but often unconsciously or tacitly employed
conceptual systems of images through which social life is interpreted and
around which social life is organized. It examines the bedrock of human
religious experience, seeking in Durkheim’s words, “to go underneath the
symbol to the reality which it represents and which gives it meaning.”

[Description] In this second volume of This Gospel Shall Be Preached, Dr.
McGee brings the remarkable story of the foreign missionary enterprise of
the Assemblies of God (USA) up to the present. He illustrates the agency’s
consistency with its original objectives as well as its advancement in
understanding a Pentecostal theology of missions; the record reflects an
increased maturity and understanding of what “partnership in mission” means.
This second volume also shows how the Assemblies of God has excelled in lay
involvement in missions and how modern, efficient vehicles for the spreading
of the Good News came into existence. At the same time, the many roles of
the modern missionary and the complexity of the new challenges before him
are overlooked.

[Description] The fire–the action of the Holy Spirit. The fireplace–the
structure of the church. If the fire is not in the fireplace, it is likely
either to rage out of control or to die.
[Description]
[Description] Charles E. Hummel thus pictures the fire of charismatic
renewal in the church today. First, he views the renewal historically,
including his personal acquaintance with it. Then he examines its biblical
basis in Luke-Acts (highlighting Luke’s doctrine of the Spirit’s activity)
and Paul’s teaching on the Spirit (focusing on 1 Corinthians 12–14). On
this material the author bases his discussion of spiritual gifts today,
baptism in the Spirit, prophecy, speaking in tongues and healing.

[Description] Prophecy, healing, tongue-speaking – the Greek word for these
and other “gifts of the Spirit” was charismata. In this illuminating new
discussion of how the Spirit equips the church for its task in the world,
Michael Griffiths suggests the name “grace-gifts” for the twenty or so
charismata listed in eight New Testament passages. The early church
understood these charismata as the result of God’s grace shining through the
prism of the congregation and being refracted into a brilliant spectrum of
gifts. The church today can similarly be enabled to face its
responsibilities in an often hostile society through these various
endowments from the Spirit.

some advantage in letting the men who know the revival best tell the story.

questions are being asked. How can this new flourish be explained? Is is a
renewal of the New Testament phenomenon? Is it something to be sought after?
[Description]
[Description] These and similiarly provocative questions are carefully
discussed by Dr. Burdick. He analyzes, evaluates and then lists all
possible explanations of the current reenlistment to the movement. More
than that, he provides background material essential to an effective
evaluation.

[Description] Claims and counter-claims relating to prophecy, healing and
tongue-speaking abound in the church. What does the apostle Paul say about
the charismata? What are the marks of an apostle? In the swirling tides of
confusion, the Bible alone is the bedrock of our understanding and practice.
[Description]
[Description] It is here the author begins, with a thorough examination of
what the Scriptures teach on these key issues, before moving on to examine
the historical background and numerous charismatic movements of the past.
From Montanism to Edward Irving and the beginning of modern Pentecostalism,
Victor Budgen gives a perspective that helps the reader understand more
clearly the roots of today’s charismatic movement.

friend from our Emmanuel Fellowship, who, at the time of writing, was

against the experience of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which he
encountered among numerous Evangelical Christians, he wrote to me, as his
pastor, for counsel.

who believe in a hereafter. Since there is a danger of crossing the

world, it is wise to study what God’s Word says concerning this very
important matter.

[Description] Many Christians have been sight-seeing, so to speak through
the Bible. They have read a book, a chapter, a verse at a time–here a
little, there a little. But they have not seen it as one great book with
one plan. Now let us follow a different method. We are going to see the
Bible as from a great height, and obtain a panaramic view of the sixty-six
books and their contents.
[Description]
[Description] We shall consider the progress of the divine plan in the
Scriptures, studying the main sections instead of the individual books, and
emphasizing the high points instead of the details.

[Description] Mike Bickle has known both the exhilaration and the confustion
caused by prophetic ministry. As a young pastor not personally inclined
toward prophecy, he was taken by surprise by the upsurge of the gift in his
own church. Feeling almost ambushed by God, he looked for help and advice,
but with little success. Thus began an often painful journey away from
“prophetic chaos” toward a clearer understanding of God’s order. It is out
of this experience he now writes for all those who are interested in seeing
prophetic ministry developed in the church today.

[Description] In his penetrating assessment of the Toronto Blessing and its
concomitant Laughing Revival, Bill Randle traces the movement back to its
origins in the “Latter Rain” and “Manifested Sons of God” stream of
Charismatic teaching. His sober evaluation of the current phenomena
provides a needed pastoral caution to the uncritical seeking after “Signs
and Wonders,” yet he retains a sincere openness to the biblical
manifestations of the Holy Spirit and exhibits a fervent desire for a God-
sent Spiritual Awakening in our day.

[Description] Pastor Randles has touched on a subject of great importance
today. The re-emergence of the Latter Rain Movement with its aberrant
theology and careless eschatology is deceiving many within the ranks of
Pentecostalism and Charismatism. When this doctrine first emerged in the
1940’s it was rightly challenged by the mainstream Pentecostal
denominations. Today it is finding greater acceptance among those
denomination’s pastors, and has made great inroads among their national
leadership. The deception never died; it went underground to await the day
when sound doctrine would be of little concern among the leadership of the
churches. This book should help the uninformed as well as those already
aware of this deception to understand the threat posed by today’s self
proclaimed “apostles” and “prophets.”

[Description] Christian schools in Ohio were the first to face major
lawsuits to determine whether they have the right to exist. But Christian
schools in many other states face similiar attacks.
[Description] Ohio’s Trojan House details an early skirmish that was fought
and won in one state. But it does more than that: it prepares the reader
to fight his own battles with tyrannical government educationists on his own
home ground.
[Description]
[Description] In this book, Grover – dynamic young executive director of
Christian Schools of Ohio-deals with the threat of statist control of
Christian education. He views the problem from legal, theological,
educational, philosophical, constitutional, and doctrinal perspectives.
[Description]
[Description] Grover reports and rebuts the arguments of a few well-
intentioned Christian educators who-strange as it may seem-gave aid and
comfort to the state department of education during the Ohio conflict.
Tragically, similiar arguments are now being mouthed in other states where
religious freedom is at stake.
[Description]
[Description] The author systematically exposes the so-called “Minimum
Standards”-Ohio’s bureaucratic compilation of educational regulations-as an
“educationally indefensible” document: and he analyzes the humanistic
doctrines which it promulgates so that the reader will understand what
Secular Humanism is and see how this Satanic philosophy/religion has
captured public schools and is infiltrating some Christian schools.

[Description] “Of the world’s nearly 200 countries and over four billion

[Description]
[Description] This is from The Village Shaman Shrine, a North Korean anti-
religious, propaganda play. Is North Korea truly the first country in human
history without religion? Are the nearly 20 million inhabitants of North
Korea really without religion?
[Description]
[Description] Although plans were made to eradicate religions once and for
all and all hatred was directed at religious faith during the Cultural
Revolution in China, a certain degree of religious freedom is allowed in
China now. The situation, however, appears different in North Korea, which
boasts of “brotherly friendship” with Communist China.
[Description]
[Description] It appears that traditional religion truly might have been
eradicated there. However, less than half a century of religious oppression
is too brief a period in history, and the political dynamics with Communist
China might change the religious situation. If we view religion in a
broader perspective and not only in the light of its definition based on
existing religious tradition, it is just possible that North Korea is
contributing to the history of religion in its own way.

[Description] Scarcely can a more memorable exhibition of God be found than
that presented by a revival of religion. Historians seldom take note of so
obscure an event: yet if the secret connections of revivals with the
destiny of nations could be disclosed, they would appear to be more critical
evolutions of history than the Gothic invasions. A volume has been compiled
narrating the decisive battles of the the world. But more significant than
this, and probing deeper the divine government of the world, would be the
history of revivals.—Austin Phelps.

[Description] This book is planned primarily for the purpose of helping the
student to study and learn the messages of the parables for himself. It is
not designed as a study of the writer’s interpretation of the parables. The
benefit from the study, therefore, will be in proportion as the student
follows the suggestions and digs into the subject for himself. Questions
and suggestions are given before each lesson as a preparation for the
lesson. Most students will not be able to give complete answers to the
questions, but the purpose is to awaken thought, and the effort to answer
them will make the study all the more interesting.

[Description] The world is aching for the Good News of Jesus Christ. Yet
tragically, many issues have sidetracked or supplanted world wide evangelism
and have been corrupted the historical meaning of the gospel itself. In
Evangelism on the Cutting Edge, ten respected evangelical scholars address
the issues that are thwarting the efforts of evangelism today.
[Description]
[Description] These essays will give you a well-rounded understanding of the
issues, enabling you to defend the work of evangelism with a biblical
response. Most importantly, they’ll give you an appreciation for the global
task of evangelism that lies before us, encouraging you to become more
involved with the efforts to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ throughout
the world.

[Publisher] National Perspectives Institute

[Subjects] AIDS
[Description] Few issues have ignited as intense a controversy as AIDS.
Fueled by the deepest passions of men’s souls–religion, liberty, survival,
love–the subject brings us face to face with basic questions about the
nature of our society.
[Description]
[Description] Is AIDS really a threat to the general population? Have the
health and safety of American citizens been compromised? Are critical facts
being suppressed in an effort to manipulate public opinion? Must we choose
between civil liberties or public health?
[Description]
[Description] This book answers these questions, and shows it is possible to
raise a cry for responsible action without blind hysteria or mindless panic.
Its proposals stand firmly at the center of the American tradition of
protecting the defenseless–and the Christian values of love and compassion.

her in ministry to His glory. A book to be shared with other people, we
hope The Ministering Woman will inspire many to discover that God can and
wants to minister to people through us.

[Publisher] Ransom Press
[Date] 1983
[Location] Closed Stacks

[Subjects] Evangelism
[Description] In the study of warfare, great men have concluded that there
are some overriding priniciples which, if followed, will always tend toward
success in battle, and with equal positiveness, if neglected or ignored,
will tend toward defeat or even destruction. These principles have been
entitled “the principles of war.”
[Description]
[Description] All except the most naive know thta the Christian is engaged
in a warfare. All except the most foolish know that in war it is imperative
that those involved apply the principles of war.
[Description]
[Description] Just as these time-tried principles are effective in waging
secular warfare–the author presents in quick succession these same
principles as the key to assured victory in our spiritual warfare.
[Description]
[Description] In the true military style of being brief, perspicuous, and
succinct, the author with power plunges the reader point-blank into the
fight–a very present institution. The enemy is Satan, the objective is the
acknowledgement and fulfillment of the commandments of God, and the
ammunition is the power of the Holy Spirit.

[Description] In tracing the history of NAE, Standing Up, Standing Together
captures the moving story of the rise of a national coordinating agency for
evangelicals at a time when few were predicting an evangelical resurgence in
America. True to the principle that history is best written from a
distance, Mr. Matthews spends most of his time on the early years. His
focus is clearly personal, not institutional. Rather than simply
chronicling events and activities as they happen, the writer probes the
people behind the news giving the story a highly human touch. As such, the
book paints helpful portraits of many individuals, with their strengths and
weaknesses, who made NAE what it is.

[Description] The developmental stages of a denomination create a framework
for questions. The discernment of God’s will creates a struggle for using a
membership’s money in purchasing and building the future. Discerning of the
‘how, what, why, where, and how many’ leads one on a journey of both
excitement and despondency. This study developed out of a study of The
Pentecostal Holiness Advocate as a source of information about pacifism in
World War I. As I read each issue from 1917 to 1922, I noticed a weekly
column on the Missions Department and I began to question its purpose. This
began the journey to explore the mission formation in The Pentecostal
Holiness Church (PHC). Early missionary histories provided only abbreviated
summaries that lacked critical examination of available primary sources.

[Description] The people known as “holiness people” will all agree that the
matter contained in this book should be given to posterity. Intimate
knowledge of the beginning of our distinctive work will soon be a matter of
history; and yet this knowledge will always be necessary to a complete
understanding of the work of holiness at any particular period. Just as the
complete knowledge of the oak must imply an understanding of the acorn, so
the Nazarene of the future should have at least some knowledge of those days
when the doctrine of holiness as a second work of grace was preached by
pioneers in tents and brush arbors without an organized support.

[Description] This text of scripture presents a subject upon which there has
been and is being today, much discussion; and among the much that is being
said, there is a great deal of poison, by which many are meeting their death
spiritually. This line of thought we have before us has been on my mind and
in my heart for some time, and the Lord has been speaking to me through the
word in regard to the truth on this subject. We would not endeavor to
venture upon this line of truth if we did not believe the Spirit was

this volume highlights its geographical and cultural diversity and gives a
voice to lesser known realities.
[Description]
[Description] Section I offers “Global Voices from Oxford”, consisting of
three prominent professors: Metropolitan Kallistos Ware, Paul S. Fiddes, and
Wonsuk Ma. Section II brings together voices from “The Global South”: Connie
Au (China), Yohanna Katanacho (Palestine), Elizabeth Salazar-Sanzana
(Chile), Agustina Luvis-Núñez (Puerto Rico), J. Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu
(Ghana), Philippe Ouédraogo (Burkina Faso), Clifton Clark (Britain), and
Olga Zaprometova (Russia). In Section III, “The Global North”, the authors
point to significant opportunities and dangers for their respective
communities: Daniel Ramírez (Latino Pentecostals), Mark Hutchinson
(Australian Pentecostals), and Pamela M.S. Holmes (Cana-dian Pentecostals).
Also, David Hilborn suggests opportunities for dialogue between Anglicans
and Pentecostals.
[Description]
[Description] Together, these voices make the reader aware of (1) fresh
possibilities for ecumenical progress and (2) the state of Pentecostalism
around the globe.

[Description] Every generation must accept the responsibility of training
the next. Yet, are modern Christian pastors and educators using teaching
paradigms that impact memory and long-term memory retention? “Pedagogical
Theory of the Hebrew Bible” is a cross disciplinary book that connects
religious education with active learning theory and demonstrates how these
two areas are intimately connected within the biblical texts of Genesis
through 2 Kings. Through vidid discussion of the literary texts, Adrian
Hinkle demonstates that religious educators never used isolated oral stories
or instructions. Instead, these are purposefully connected with other
learning formats to increase memory retention and ensure each generation
experiences the traditions of Yahweh.

[Description] Often the modern grace message gives people a license to
disregard the clear moral teachings of Jesus and the apostles. Churches
around the globe teach a lawless grace and direct many to make choices of
convenience and compromise. Consequently Christianity loses public
credibility as so-called leaders of faith fall into adultery, child abuse,
alcoholism, financial corruption, and many other sins. This is the great
crisis of the twenty-first-century church, and respected theologian Vinson
Synan says it’s time to bring it to light. Featuring perspectives of leaders
from a range of cultural, pastoral, and theological backgrounds, The Truth
About Grace opens the discussion to more than a dozen scholarly
contributors, tackling topics such as grace and the security of the
believer; grace versus works; and tongues as a manfiestation of grace. Synan
brings you the key voices on this hot topic, from hyper-grace critic Michael
Brown to Singaporean pastor Joseph Prince, whom some consider a leading
voice in the hyper-grace movement. The Truth About Grace will help you
discern the unbiblical excesses in the modern grace message while growing in
understanding of the true nature and purpose of grace.

[Description] African Pentecostal Mission Maturing is a definitive and fresh
account of how Pentecostalism has grown from the fringes of various
societies to the center stage of world Christianity, becoming the
representative face of the faith in most of Africa. In this volume, seasoned
academics–missiologists, theological educators, and church historians–from
Asia, North America, Europe, and Africa chart the trajectories of the
pentecostalizing drive in Christian missions that has impacted societies,
institutions, and peoples. Pentecostalism is analyzed under specific themes,
such as: mission and theology, pastoral ministry and social responsibility,
Christian education, and ecumenism. It highlights the maturation of
Pentecostalism in AFrica and demonstrates that the features of its infancy
have transformed. Although written by experienced scholars, the content is
presented accessibly so that pastors and laity can benefit.
