Discipleship Ministries recommends every family consider using the Fire Bible for Kids or Fire Bible Student Edition during their family devotions. This is a great tool for families to use! Jeff Patterson, Associate Pastor of River of Life in Oklahoma City, has recently begun using the Fire Bible with his three children during their family devotions. For a long time now I have wanted to lead my wife and three kids in a nightly devotion before going to bed. We would try different kid bible studies, but my children were not grasping what we were studying and I felt like I was not leading them well spiritually. Recently, I was introduced to the Fire Bible and it has been a great investment for our family. Not only does it give helpful insights about biblical truths, it embraces the teaching of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. The description of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is not only accurate, but they give an outline on how to receive the Holy Spirit that can help any parent, grandparent or children’s pastor lead someone to receive that gift.
Another great aspect of this Bible is the tech savvy side of it. Before each book there is a picture that has a secret message behind it. This message can only be opened with an app on your phone or tablet designed for the Fire Bible. When you hold your phone or tablet over it, it will ask a question about that book and then show a 3D picture of a character or game for your kids to play. My kids enjoy it and I enjoy seeing them interact with the Bible.
Unfortunately, this Bible does not guarantee perfect children while reading through it. It is likely that they may be hitting one another, jumping on the dog, or even secretly hiding in the corner drawing a beautiful masterpiece on your wall. However, whatever they may be doing, don’t be discouraged. Continue to work with them on sitting still, but realize that the times that they cannot does not mean they have not been listening. There have been many times that I will ask my kids “what did we just read about?” and they respond with the correct answer even when I thought they weren’t paying attention. Occasionally they will answer “Jesus!” and I always give them credit because Jesus is the Answer.
I would highly recommend the Fire Bible for both parents and churches!
