NORTH CAROLINA MOBILE FEEDING KITCHEN COMPLETES 10-DAY DEPLOYMENT IN WEST VIRGINIA |
FINAL UPDATE |
Report from Bill Terry, IPHC DRUSA National Coordinator The North Carolina Mobile Feeding Kitchen has been deployed to West Virginia for ten days. They will serve their last meal today at lunch and then depart for home. During their time in White Sulphur Springs, our teams have served well over 10,000 meals to families in and around the area. We arrived in the area on Sunday, June 26 and began by serving lunch on Monday. Over the course of the 10 days, we have seen many individuals and families come by the kitchen, but over the last few days, more and more of our meals have been going out into the devastated areas as people are going back to their homes to begin the search and clean up process. As the number of meals that we served began to greatly decrease over the holiday weekend, it became apparent that it was time to close up shop. As stated above, our team will serve the final meal today at lunch and then return to North Carolina. I would like to begin by saying a big thank you to Pastor Gene Sizemore and the congregation of White Sulphur Springs PH Church. Whenever DRUSA gets involved in an area, especially when the Kitchen goes out, we always try to partner with one of our local churches. There is always a synergy that comes with working together. That was especially true in this case. In addition, I would like to express our deepest appreciation to all of the volunteers who gave of their time during the last week, particularly over the holiday. Thank you for a job well done! We will continue to provide you with updates in regard to how things are evolving in the area. Please remember that the recovery process is still ongoing.
